Thoughts/Things to know about Replica Wheels..

i know this is a controversial topic but i wanted to get thoughts and opinions from those who have experience with replica wheels relating to quality and safety.

I am strongly considering a set of 22" 599M replica wheels for my M Sport but i have some strong reservations as i don't have any experience with rep wheels.

First off, is there any particular rating or certification to make sure the wheels have? ......TUV, JWL, VIA compliancy ?
I live in NYC, the roads can be rough but i am very careful and vigilant but regardless, things happen, has anyone had cracked or badly bent rep wheels? is the tendency for them to crack (and potentially cause loss of control/accident) high?

I am considering purchasing them from WheelProz or Wheelzone...
I know Dubseed has a set of 599M wheels on his X5...they are also 22" reps. let me know what you guys think !

As long as you get it from reputable shop, most reps are just fine.

Some folks drive around carefree for years on reps. Some don't. I have a wife and a son riding in my X5. Would it probably be OK? Sure. But I went for OEM wheels instead.

Many run in Reps and haven't seen a horror story coming from them yet. I run reps for winters.

I'm running RS4 reps on my A4, they're made by Hartmann. No issues to date, and they've got over 80k on them. I too have seen horror stories on reps. That said, choose a reputable brand and do your research.

I am looking for some winter wheels, reps would be fine for me. Who would you consider to be a "reputable" shop? Thank you

My father bought his BMW "rep" wheels from a company named MAK Wheels, as they are TUV certified.

I have 1 trouble free winter on Opti Reps. Will definitely post if I have an issue with them but I certainly don't expect to.

As others mentioned. Rep wheels are need to be bought from reputable source, since it is a hit and miss when you buy it from unknown source.
For daily road use, under normal usage condition, it will held up fine.
But if you hit potholes and bump like you don't care, nothing will last, not even stock aluminum wheels. In this case, better off to find steel rims.

Purchased Avant Gardes for my 550 winter setup a few years ago. They oxidized and I had to get them sanded and repainted. Because of that, I have OEMs for my winter setup on recently purchased X5. A friend has a good saying -- buy cheap, buy twice.

Really? Bad luck with AG? That's good to know for future reference.

Buy from a reputable source and you'll be fine. Otherwise, try to keep in mind that with car accessories if something's price seems too good to be true, it's probably junk.

I don't know either vendor that you are considering but all else equal, I would probably go with the one that has an actual physical location and shop with the thinking that they have more invested in the business and have more interest in doing right by customers.

I run reps for my winter set (or used to run reps, I no longer need a dedicated winter setup) and never had a problem with them. I personally went through EAS and they were great...they helped with fitment suggestions, tire choices, etc. and were an overall pleasure to deal with. This was years ago though, YMMV.
