Leather Dashboard Ripples?

I'll see if I can get some pictures...but part of the surface almost looks like a sand dune ripple. Very slight, but once the light hits it just right, very noticeable.

Anyone have this issue? Warranty item I'm sure...just not sure if I want them ripping the dash apart

Car is 2015 with ~20k miles on it and garaged 100% of the time.

Mine is very flat. Sounds like warranty issue.

Agree, sounds like a possible warranty claim. I was lucky not to have any fit and finish type claims on my F15, I know others haven't been so lucky.

This sounds like the leather is shrinking. My F15 does not have a leather dash but my 2002 Ferrari 456M does, and leather dash shrinking is a huge problem. Special care is required to keep the leather and any foam that the leather is attached to from drying out. Sunlight is not your leather dash's friend.

I have it on mine. I chalked it up to likely damage from water or from cleaning solutions.

I haven't taken it to the dealer as a warranty concern since it's likely that they would say that I caused the damage and the issue is barely noticeable anyway (limited to a small space under the passenger side front window by the air vent).

I only use Swissvax Leather Cleaner on my dashboard, and sparingly at that. For the rest, just a wipe down with a microfiber is all that is needed.

Interesting snip about possibly sun damage... I have ceramic tint film on my windshield, so hopefully that helps. I also use leather conditioner once in a while.

I had the same issue on my X5 leather dash. I noticed it soon after I picked up and wasn't sure what to make of it. Had the dealer check it out a couple months later and they said it is definitely not normal. They replaced it but it was a major undertaking due to all the clips and little parts the needed to order. I believe they had to replace most of the dash. Looks great now and I hope your repair doesn't take as long.

Good luck

This happened to me in my old AM Vantage - they needed to pull the dash apart and reglue the leather. All was well after that - it was a Florida car previously so the sun was not good to it..

2016 X6 Dashboard Failure

To say that I have been disappointed by what's taking place with our dashboard material is an understatement! At about the 3 year period ( give or take) we noticed the material at the windshield level was starting to peel back to the point where ripples were showing up further into the cockpit. The dealer took care of it under warranty by replacing the dash. About a year and a half later the same problem started happening again, and still exists today. Why does it exist today? It's because it is no longer under warranty and the repair is FIVE GRAND!! My hesitation for the repair is that I have no idea if BMW has made any improvements in their dashboards where this will not happen again in the near future. Any information on this subject will be greatly appreciated.

If it was replaced by BMW it has 2 years warranty on the part, you can still get it fixed under that.

Pretty common in southern regions if you are not religious about using a sunshade and cracking the windows/roof to vent the interior. Leather conditioner helps too. The leather shrinks in the heat/UV exposure and eventually the adhesive loses the battle.

Our 2015 is doing this in South Texas because the original owner did not care for the leather dash. Our 2010 that has nappa dash still looks perfect even though it has lived in the same environment.
