Took it out for some spirited driving in Sport and Sport + modes yesterday and today. With the dynamic handling package it handles at least 2x better than both my former M3 and my ex-5er. I'm so glad I paid up for that package. Incredible.

I would almost give up every other option to get DHP if I was capital constrained. I took corners on exits and onramps at speeds i wouldn't have dared to do in my 2010 5-series M wagon. It just feels planted like my old Porsche used to feel on the race track. Solid and confidence building.

I'm noticing the brakes feel a little spongy so that needs more testing.

Discount Tire in Seattle said they could get the Hakka's in 2 days for just over $1,000 for the set of 4.

VERY nice, congrats. I was thinking of getting the Fineline Pure Wood Trim as well. Is it a matte finish? Also does it look like it would scratch easily?
Thanks again and enjoy.

Congrats on your new car and thanks for the pics. This is the same exact spec I've gone for. Dark graphite with 19" 449 rims, black Dakota with fine line pure textured wood interior trim. Not clear from the photos if you've also got the leather instrument panel but overall that combo looks awesome.

If you get some time would be really appreciated if you can post some more pictures especially of the interiors. How do you think the textured wood trim goes with the black Dakota Leather trim?

Enjoy your car.

I just got back from a trip that put 450 miles on my 35d (of 600 miles driven total over 5 days). I filled up the tank with $4/gallon diesel before leaving and still have just over a quarter of a tank left (computer says 200 more miles before empty!). Averaged 30.6mpg using a combination of three modes: EcoPRO (freeway), Comfort (in the city), and Sport (on ramps, off ramps and fun sections of the freeway). If I could only afford one package when ordering, it would have to be the $4,500 suspension upgrade:

ZDH Dynamic Handling Package
- 2VP Dynamic Performance Control + Active Roll Stabilization
- 2VM Dynamic Damper Control + Rear Axle Air Suspension

I would forgo every other option and package...it is that good and makes the F15 a blast to drive fast and in the twisties. Corners on rails; tracks flat and absolutely no discernable body roll. In comfort and EcoPRO modes its smooth over bumpy roads, the same roads that destabilized my prior 2010 5-series. It is an amazing piece of technology.

Second favorite add-on is the HUD. I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to a car without it. Sort of like getting your first smart phone and looking back at those feature phones/flip phones of old with disgust. Third favorite feature is a tie between the HK surround sound and the surround video.

Other pleasant surprises:

- NAV with detour options and alternative routes

- Office that reads my incoming emails and texts (text to voice); though i haven't figured out how to dictate responses yet (voice to text)

- Hands free phone conversations are much clearer -- they've moved the microphones from the center roof stack to directly above your head in the driver and passenger seats (sometimes when a call comes in and I'm listening to music, it doesn't switch to the phone screen to allow me to pick up the call -- maybe a software glitch?)

- Steering feels great to me -- i never owned either of the previous two generations of X5's but I did take them for test drives and didn't like the heavy steering. I prefer the F15 steering.

- Acceleration is almost M3-like (with the diesel) with no discernable turbo lag, especially in Sport and Sport+ modes -- its not as good as a Tesla Model S, but the throttle response is the best of any other BMW I've ever driven.

- Multi-contour seats are not as plush as my prior e61 but are actually more comfortable on long drives...3-4 hour drives with no breaks were no problem.

- Cruise control: I thought I was going to miss the separate cruise control lever but I don't -- using the controller/roller on the steering wheel combined with the digitized speedometer readout on the HUD is a dream.

- Fineline pure wood trim -- I like it because its different, not glossy, doesn't show fingerprints, and it add depth and texture to the interior; if I did it again, I'd get the leather dash option.

Issues:

The headrests on the front seats don't rise as high as prior models which is a bit annoying for me (a tall driver).

Ripping CD's onto the 20GB hard drive is a lot slower than my 2010 5-series (2x slower). Is it the software or the storage medium or the drive controller? I'm assuming BMW is using SSD's (like in my MacBookAir and MacBookPro)...anyone know?

- Voice recognition is good but wish it was faster.

- NAV with traffic is information overload when driving through cities as NAV now shows traffic for all roads, not just freeways and the colors blend together on the screen -- anyone know how to shut off traffic for all but major roads/freeways?

- writing letters and numbers on top of the iDrive controller was not working well for me as i think you have to write letters a certain way which reminds me of the old Palm Pilot and Handspring PDA's from the mid-90s. I turned it off for now.

Dislikes:

- automatic engine start/stop at stoplights. Its unnerving and the button next to the starter seems to be disabled -- can it be shut off in the iDrive menu? I've been told I have to bring it into the dealership to have them programmatically shut it off.

That's it for now. More later.

Great looking car and nice review. The more I hear about DHP the happy I am I ordered it. Can't wait to try it out.
Could you just burn all your CDs to an mp3 player/USB? May be quicker and give you a bit more flexibility than using the hard drive.
Stop/start does take some getting used to.
Keep the reviews coming!

I use my high capacity USB to transfer music files to the Hard Drive formatted to FTFS and NOT FAT32 which doesn't work with my current X5.

Auto Start/Stop-AS/S ( for F15) should already be factory set for last driver use mode. Mine is always off, no need to deactivate the function each time I start the car. Is also what Delivery Specialist told me.

For Canada F25, dealer will need to use software to program AS/S to last driver mode, first time free. I understand in some parts of Europe the dealer charges for this program.

Thanks for sharing your impressions. Update us on Hakka's when you get them. I guess you did not want the 'all weather Hakka's'

Thanks for the review! Glad you are enjoying it. Some impressive fuel economy for a new engine not yet broken in. Seems like the general consensus of every 35d owner is that performance and economy is great out of the box.
