My 50i can walk stock x5m any day, but do I regret not getting m? Yes I do regret. Every BMW I have owned was modded, I see no sense buying a BMW if you want it stock (this is just my opinion people). With M I could have raised the bar even further.
Sound wise - 50i and x5m have same exhaust, except rear muffler. Now with tried and true muffler delete - 50i sounds like heaven - stock x5m is no match. Everything else is better on x5m of course Last edited by DuSh; 01-12-2018 at 02:29 PM.. |

I mean let's say 0-60 I can do in 3.8sec while stock x5m will do in 3.9sec (if it's a good day or 4.0sec on average day). Only in case if modded 50i vs stock x5m - it's obvious if x5m is modded in any way it will be faster
P.S. granted mods I've done no other sane person will do lol (weight reduction etc) |

To the OP, I will second the minority comments in this thread. If comfort is a priority, and if a V6 RRS felt adequate to you in the performance department, you will not be disappointed by the 50i (considerably faster than a V6 RRS). Save your money.

With a JB1 plus X5M filters, my 50i ran 12.5 at 110. There are much better tunes available now, but you can only push the smaller turbos and intercoolers of the 50i so far. You might be getting close to a stock X5M, but until you run 115mph in the 1/4.......it’s just a guess. |

the OP like most of us BMW owners want to buy a car and not spend stupid money to mod it or be reckless to lose the manufacturers warranty so whats the point of all your posts...

what have you done? what are you basing your numbers on? do you have slips or dyno plots? Quote:
when other tuners put a stock x5m on the dyno it put down numbers well above what bmw stated. Factory Rated HP 567 (647 Measured) Factory Rated Torque 553 (633 Measured)

Every buyer is different, and it's not that much money to mod. Tunes are about $1300, exhaust mods are about $300-400 (for muffler delete on 50i), weight reduction mods are free for someone who can use a screwdriver. Lighter rims cost money, but people still buy them even for not modded cars. The only part i will agree is warranty, but if I'm not worried about, for sure there are others too

I don't want to steer this thread off the topic, but I can argue with anyone that modded 50i is at about stock x5m levels. For many owners if car has 600hp and sounds good (with muffler delete) and looks good (x5m still looks meaner of course) - that's all they need for a relatively heavy SAV - that's my philosophy too There's no doubt x5m has a lot more potential, I'm just stating another point of view - that 50i can be a fun SAV for less money |

Accelerometer apps are terrible. I used DL and tested it against my Vbox and the strip. A stock X5M or M5 will Dyno around 525rwhp. What did you dyno on the DD ?

I'm thinking x-drive is stealing about 18% if not more P.S. It's not only power, I went towards weight reduction as well - that's another approach that 1/4 mile will show better unlike dyno |

even with the numbers you posted and the stageII potential you're still putting up less than the x5m stock. did you do a base dyno? if so what did it come in at? what did you remove for that kind of weight savings besides switching to lighter wheels?
going to the extent you did it may result in costing more when you factor in depreciation on all the "mods" and if anything occurs during the warranty period which bmw declines to cover. either way just curious to see your project and the numbers. you piqued my interest. lastly i highly doubt there are going to be more than a handful of other x5 drivers willing to go as far as you have on their vehicle so i am not sure if the OP would even consider any of this based on their original comments in the first post.

The only thing I wanted to clear is if stock x5m numbers we are talking about are on DD or Dynojet? I found stock x5m Dynojet numbers at 544rhp and 564 rtq - is this correct? If it is - then for example my DD 560awtq is about 620awtq if you convert DD to Dynojet (at the very least, some calculators even show 670-680 on Dynojet) I removed all seats and installed a Recaro drivers seat only (230 lbs reduction). Lighter rims and tires compared to stock (88lbs lighter total), removed muffler (60lbs) and have some options further. However, car drives and turns with much less roll - weight reduction is noticeable even in everyday driving Last edited by DuSh; 01-12-2018 at 04:22 PM.. |

400lbs weight reduction is significant. I dropped 35Lbs with forged wheels. 80Lbs is huge. Must have been run flats. I owned a DynoDynamics for 10 years. Excellent load dyno. Be careful using the torque spike as a maximum. The load control causes the converter to spike. Use the number after it “levels”. Rough multiplier from DD to DJ is 1.15 If you want some more weight reduction look at replacing 90Lbs of battery in the back with a single Braille Lithium at 21lbs.
