Can you provide more details? You had 6WA cluster and HUD, was it working before? Is your 6WB cluster got your car mileage and everything else is working? Did you add 6WB to your FA?

Yes, the car had 6WA and HUD before, I don't know if navi tips were displayed because 6WB was retrofited in the salon where I bought the car. I Don't know is navi tips were displayed after retrofit because I did not use navigation. 6WB works from the beginning without a problem, there is a mileage of the car etc. Notifications chek control, choice of multimedia etc. is displayed on 6WB or HUD depending on what I set in the idrive menu. Navi tips can be set to display together on 6WB and HUD, maybe here is the problem? I don't know if this is the case with chek control notifications because I am outside the house with another car. It is added to FA. Some time ago I bought an enet cable and esys program and at the beginning I didn't know there were "ready" code on the right in esys like Almaretto and I was manually looking for different coding options. Maybe that's when I changed something. Just after buying the cable I updated the maps and saw that navi tips do not display on 6WB or HUD.

Just keep in mind that with 6WB you can only have navigation on one device- cluster or HUD. If your HUD turned off- it will display navigation instructions on the cluster and vice versa. Also check the I-drive settings again. Are you sure you VO coded HU_NBT?
Connect => Read FA => Activate FA => Read VCM => Right-Click on HU_NBT (the ECU itself not the CAFD) => Select CODE. I am not that advanced with coding to know every parameter in e-sys, and personally I wouldn't push random buttons since you can make things worse. |

Injecting CAFD (Detect CAF for SWE) and Flashing ECU's with >= v.4.17.20 PSdZData requires using newer E-Sys 3.30.0 or higher.

Replacement 6WB
All,
this seemed like a good place to start - if i should be posting somewhere else let me know - hopefully someone is still reading this! I recently had a 6wb cluster replaced (August 2019 second hand) as the perspex formed a crack. At the time everything seemed okay. I have just taken the car in for a service, and the Mechanic attempted to use the odometer reset button for the service and brakes, but then realized the button was not working properly (we never touch this button). He offered to take the cluster out and try and fix it, but once he got the cluster out he put it right back in, as he said it had looked like a dodgy second hand cluster and he didn't want to work on it. I am hoping to get photos this week. But i also wanted to confirm a couple of things. Does the odometer button need to be working to reprogram a second hand cluster, or is this all done through the cable? Is it possible to identify the cluster by serial number and if it was original to the car? - i feel like they replaced the perspex to the old cluster so they wouldn't have to reprogram. If the button can't be fixed, i may be in for another replacement cluster, and it sounds like bimmertech is the way to go. Or i just bite the bullet and get BMW to do it. So much for trying to save a bit of money. Seemed like a good idea at the time. |

Red_Y_ Thanks for the responses.
The car had a 6WB originally. I had a mechanic do it for me as it was out of warranty. I called around to a few places before i found someone that was able to do it. They got the second hand cluster from a wrecker in Melbourne and replaced. Was more economical vs BMW. Other then the left hand cluster reset button everything is working fine. If i play with the button i can get the information on the rev portion(identification - Conv. Index 41733 1/km SWFl1 etc. Photo i have is blurry and i can't get it up all the time), but the button doesn't react again or spring back to be pushed again. Same for a brake service reset i can press and hold and sometime the option comes up, but then the button won't react again. The actual mechanic that replaced it is going to look at it, but likely they are going to respond that it is a second hand cluster so tough luck. Just trying to build a case before having to fork out the $$ again for another cluster. I don't have the confidence etc. to code. Hence Bimmertech. Any other thoughts would be appreciated. |

Since you got it used there is a chance that it was broken when it you got it first and sounds like it is just a sticky button you have there, if that's the only issue with this cluster why bother with another one? You can reset service interval using easys cable and ISTA.

Good point, I thought they would have checked it for functionality.
With regards to easys cable and ISTA is there a thread for this? I have no experience connecting to cars. Might be the best way forward to save some $$ - Can you also code service to the electronic log book? |
