I've got the BMW OEM version; well built, easy to install, fits perfectly on the roof rails (duh), and works well. I use a Yakima Load Warrior (I think that's what it's called) and have a Yakima bag that fits inside, holding all the stuff. I don't really run with just the roof rack, so I can't really speak to any noise issues. I do know that when it's fully loaded, it will cut off about 2-4 mpg on the highway.

I have the OEM one too - I bought it for my E70 and it fitted the F15 as well. On both cars there is a lot of wind noise once going above say 40mph. You can mitigate the noise to an extent by fitting the rubber strips that come with it, if you don't actually have anything on the roof. I also have the pano roof and found that closing the sun visor helped cut the noise too - so the noise itself may be less intrusive if you don't have the pano roof?
More "aero" bars are available from other manufacturers, but I can't speak as to how much of a difference they make. |

I have the BMW OEM one with a Yakima Skybox. The wind noise on our 1100 mile trip was annoying, but only because I had the sunshade open so I could keep tabs on the box at first. Once I closed the sunroof shade, it was virtually unnoticeable. The bars without the box installed made almost no noise at all.

I have the OEM rack, mainly for kayaking (with Yakima J-Low racks) but have not used it yet, only fitted it on. The manual for the roof rack says to remove the bars when not in use. The rack fits and looks great. There are certain spots on the roof they must be installed on, then you put small stickers in the door wells to identify where they go for when you take the rack off and reinstall. Given what you can get the OEM racks for, I think it's a no brainer to get them vs. aftermarket.
