X5 35i Muffler mod?

Has anyone on here cut open the muffler on their x5 35i to see how it looks inside? Im curious if the same exhaust mod that people do on other vehicles such as the E92 335i or E92 M3s where they seal off the perforated pipes to give it a little more sound is also possible on these vehicles.

Example of what I'm talking about:

If you're handy, you should go for it. If you're not ACM charges $450?? for this mod for the M3.

I've looked inside the piping my my 535i M performance mufflers and most of it was straight piping with very little perforation. IF you don't want to spend $1300 on a MPE, I think it's worth the money, especially if you can do it yourself.

If you can find a cheap used 335i MPE, maybe it can be modified to fit a X5 (single inlet, dual outlet)
I doubt anyone here has tried it before

@Kzang I have no experience in MPE, but the two cars have different mid pipe design.
F10 535 there is a resonator in the midpipe and uses 2 separate muffler.
F15 35i there is no resonator in the midpipe and uses single muffler.
On the cold start itself, F15 35i sounds louder than F10 535.

R33 is right. The mid pipe has a huge resonator

Here's a vid of my full catback with two smaller resonators and MPE

Wow.. I wonder why BMW made the X5 a more aggressive vehicle than it's other line. MPE on our X5 sounds better than majority of other BMW's even including the M's. Maybe to attract those guys who had to get a family car but don't compromise on performance?

Back when I had an Infiniti G35 sedan, I realized that G37 coupe stock and aftermarket exhausts sound so much better. Part of that seemed to be the due to the sedan having 2 mufflers and the G37 having one huge muffler like the X5.

If you compare the exhaust note to Ben's exhaust, it almost sounds like two different cars. The MPE does a good job at altering the natural exhaust sound (or bad job, if you hate how the MPE sounds). I see companies like Maserati are going in with cars like the Ghilbi. A small 3.0 liter V6 sounds more like an exotic V8. I'm sure BMW's marketing team figured out that 35i owners wanted to save $10k but have a car that sounds faster than it actually is? lol

??? I'm not following the save $10k reference... are you saying that 35i owners are trying to save $10k by not purchasing the 50i? Also, what do you mean by sounds faster than it actually is?

Yea I meant people like me wanted to save $10k by not buying V8, but wanted a car that sounds aggressive....as aggressive as a small 3 liter inline 6 can sound.

mPE might be louder, but your car isn't actually any more powerful or able to go faster

For me that extra aggressive sound provides that extra gratification and experience when I'm driving

I agree. It reveals the great sound of the N55.
