My biggest tow so far. It was quite a weight. The length of the trailer (8+ meter) was a challenge, especially with the many roundabouts we had to overcome.

My biggest fear with this event would be picking up a flat at that location.

Tows my 14.25 ft aluminum Lund like its not even behind me.

Load weighs in at 1600 lbs all tolled. Weighed on a truck scale (of course, no car attached).
Installed the Invisihitch myself.

Only issue is on the highway or through the mountains I have to keep looking back to remember I'm towing it :

This is an issue that I would not mind having!

A testament to how well engineered this vehicle and the sum of its parts is!

It really is a testament to bmw. My last SUV was a toyota highlander limited, true it was 10k less than say a toyota RX350 and I pulled the same boat for the past two years with the HL.

After I installed the invisihitch and took my first boating trip to the river with the bmw . . . it was night and day.

The Highlander had around a $40,000 MSRP when new. Its also a 6 cylinder.

Shows what $20,000 more in MSRP between the two vehicles got me . . . who knew

Man . . . your 50i must be really something to drive!

So, I went from an '09 Nissan Armada LE. Also a V8 and heavy on the torque/power. So, going from a SUV with a curb weight of around 6,800 lbs. to a SAV with a curb weight of around 5,200 lbs coupled with a twin turbo, 32v V8...I had no idea what I was getting into! Boy am I glad I have this X5!!! WOW!

In one of my previous posts I detail how I got spanked by an X5M and how I hadn't boned up on the launch control feature. I gave it a whirl a week or two ago. I damn near SHAT myself in reaction! WOW!

I haven't towed yet, but I'm sure that it will be just as much of a breeze as you have detailed your experience was!

I regularly tow two dragonboats around the UK and recently completed a 2,200 mile round trip from Nottingham, UK to Venice, Italy.

I have the BMW factory electric folding towbar.

It looks big, suffice to say my F15 & the trailer are 18m long in total. The trailer weighs about 2 tons.

Wow. That is some rig. And the scenery is amazing. I'm jealous!

How long are the boats?

Thats beautiful. Love the purple covering.
And I thought "my" trailering cover was a slow process to put back on after each trip on the water

Can we see a pic of the sailboat without the cover or better yet, under sail on the water? Can you sleep on it?

The boats themselves are about 43 feet long.

That scenery was in Switzerland on our way down to Venice in Italy from Nottingham in the UK. Early morning driving through the mountains beside the lakes which were absolutely millpond flat was pretty amazing.

1,100 miles, 26 hours on the road in total, averaging about 50mph at 25mpg, just stopping for fuel and to change drivers.

Ya me too I'd like one that I could do a few overnights on. Problem is most states have towing width laws like in NY is 8 ft 6 inches wide.

The X5 can pull the weight, but a rig too big may not be allowed on the roads here.

26 ft is probaly around the max and best pulled by a truck and then you have to drive a truck.

Its not the pulling thats the issue with an X5 . . . its the stopping even with a trailer with its own brakes.

I'll be in the market for like a 23 footer

Haven't seen a X6 yet, so here's mine going to the river this weekend. It's a small trailer and boat but it feels like I have nothing on the back while towing.
