Smelly Cat - Vent Odor
Has anyone experience a wet rag smell from the AC vents? The car has about 1500 miles on it and the odor is pretty strong when you first turn on the AC. It come and goes.
Have not taken it to the dealers but wanted to see if anyone else had this issue. |

We always keep the HVAC on Auto so we don't have the musty smell. All A/C systems suffer from this due to moisture retained after the system has been running. That's why they say if you manually turn on/off the A/C you should run with the fan only for the last part of your trip to let the vents dry out.
Since you only have 1500 miles, the dealer may clean/disinfect the vents/condenser under warranty. Never hurts to ask. Otherwise, I've used 1Z Klima Cleaner with good success in the past. Or... use old skool Lysol sprayed into the air intake cowl at the base of the windshield. That should work as well.
