I have one where I live that when I get the green light on the feeder to the artery, I figured out if I accelerated hard to 80 and then coast from that point, I would just go under the light as it turned yellow. Speed limit is 45....do that, or accelerate slowly and you will just get caught by the light every time.

Moral of the story....
Always accelerate hard and ignore the speed limit.

new X5 owner here. Why my ASS light is not always ON after starting engine? Is ASS On or Off stays the same as last time you shut the engine?

Except in eco pro mode (which always defaults the Auto Start Stop to "on") the vehicle should remember the last ASS setting used.

Thanks, Rotzy. This is my first car that has ASS. But I heard lots of people complaining they need to turn if off every time after starting the car (other brands). So I have no complain here.

Your are correct: many manufacturers have the Auto Start Stop default to "on" and some don't let you turn it off at all. Thankfully, BMW still let's drivers be drivers and choose how to setup their own car!

My GF has a Ghibli and this feature activates itself after every ignition. So you have to turn it off in the settings or put it in Sport every single time you start the car.

And if you're worried about killing your starter and battery?
