Mocha Nappa with Fineline Pure Wood. Thumbs up or thumbs down?
I know that a few here on this forum have already taken delivery of their F15's with Mocha Nappa and Fineline Pure Wood. I have yet to see this combo in person. Today I drove a 535d with Mocha Nappa and I loved the Mocha color (also loved how quiet and smooth the new diesel is too). The dealer had a 50i M sport space gray with Black Dakota and Fineline Pure Wood. I had mixed feelings about the Fineline Pure Wood with the black, especially on the console where to me it looked like plastic rather than wood against the black plastic.
So input would be greatly appreciated, especially you that have the combo. What are your impressions since you have lived with it for a bit? Also, any of you that have seen Fineline Pure Wood with Mocha Nappa in person please chime in! |

Mocha + hexagonal for me. Sportier and more contrasty imo. There is already a piano lacquer strip on the dash anyway. Wood on top of wood is a bit much...

On light interiors wood is nice for some balance, but Imo looks old fashioned an so 80's. |

Mocha and fineline
I think this is an example. It is what I have chosen, although aluminum was a close second.

Thanks for all the responses! I have yet to see Mocha Nappa with Hex Alum. as well. Like ckortane, I'm thinking the Alum. might be a bit much, but really not interested in the gloss wood. I've had so many gloss wood/black interiors that I have lost count and am ready for something different. I was really impressed with the Mocha in person but the gloss wood just seemed a little hum-drum and lost i.m.o. I am glad Mocha is darker and richer in person than it appears in so many photos. I'm thinking that the Fineline Pure Wood is much better paired with the Mocha than it is to Black.
Bring on the hi res photos of Mocha Nappa with either Fineline Pure or Hex Alum! Keep the comments coming! I put in my order last night for my M sport 35d (it's about time the diesel is avail. in the US with M sport!). Ordered Mocha Nappa and Fineline Pure but have a bit to change it since the allocation is for January build. |

Here's an image from "michaeljhale"'s delivery thread
This is brushed, rather than hexagon, but still gives a good sense of appearance. I'd love closer pictures of the fineline pure to get a sense of what it actually looks like... |

I love the way the Fineline Pure Wood looks, has a nice texture almost like my hand scraped hardwood floors which I love
Plus the grayish colour makes it looks more modern IMO. Here are some pics I came across with Fineline Pure Wood: http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/attac...1&d=1385319208 http://i1285.photobucket.com/albums/...ps293e1782.jpg http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/attac...1&d=1382226595 http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/attac...1&d=1382226593 http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/attac...1&d=1382226593 |

Totally agree with patrob.
99% of the "wood" in luxury cars is so heavily lacquered and overly shiny that it looks and feels the same as the plastic faux "wood" used as trim in the Toyota Highlanders of the world. With BMW's fineline wood, you can actually feel the grain in the wood. And any shine/sheen is totally natural, not the product of some plasticizing process. |

Some of those pictures are from the "Modern Line" 3 Series that was later discontinued in the USA. Those pictures as well as opinions from people who had seen the "Pure" trim in the 3 series made me decide to avoid the "Pure" trim in the X5. I went with the Poplar instead.
