Some (mostly good) info for 50i owners
So I've asked in a different thread a service adviser who works in a BMW dealership about valve stem seals (the main issue previous generation n63 engine owners had) that dry and cause oil seepage through and thus increased oil consumption. Aside from that n63 engine was solid, but that issue was main cause of dreaded engine replacements.
So this was my question to him: Originally Posted by DuSh: Have you had many f15 x5 50i (n63tu) engine replacements due to excessive oil consumption or due to bad valve stem seals? BMW SA response: We have done many many valve guide seals on N63’s but none on the newer TU engine. It’s always been on E70/71 X5 and X6. A couple of earlier model year f10 550i and and a bunch of f01/f02. I have yet to see an f15 need valve guide seals but I’m sure we’ll get there as time passes and we start seeing higher mileage ones come in. It’s only a matter of time really. So I think we can cautiously be on the optimistic side - as I know for a fact that n63 engines developed that issue within 1st year of ownership (meaning it wasn't ONLY time issue - it was probably a bad design/materials used flaw in the first place). F15 is out 3.5 years already and so far so good (hopefully it's been addressed in n63tu with it's technical update) |

I would be fine with that if only one n63tu 50i had there valve stem seals replaced lol and cars will always have there issues, all we can do is hope it’s not ours
