When do you plan on installing yours? Your install will give me a lot of insight on what I need to do with my rear rotors and calipers.

Did your kit come with 385mm rear rotors? Crossing my fingers that your rear calipers are the same as the stock 50i.
It did come with the M rear rotors. Install won't be for some time. Got tons of life on my oem set up and just got married so money tight at the moment paying off some of those bills. Only bought it when I did cuz it was a really good price on a F85 set off a wrecked car from eBay. Came with everything but dust shields and front rotors. Still need to sand blast them and get them powder coated. Having trouble finding a rebuild kit for the pistons and boots etc which I need to do as I don't trust eBay or the condition they were in before they came off whatever truck they came off of

Cool. The more I think about it, I think I'm just going to do the fronts. Too much uncertainty on the rear calipers and whether or not they'll work on 385 rotors.

Looking back I wish I woulda just gone that route. If the caliper is the same then all you would need to do is get some custom made spacers to raise the caliper the appropriate distance away from the hub to accommodate the 385 rotor. I did that on my AMG so I could use 6pot brembos which were set to be used with 340mm rotors but my oem rotors were 345 and hella cheaper as they were one piece and not 2 piece. Had a company manufacture 4 custom 2.5 mm washers to put between the caliper and the bracket. I was thinking about doing this to utilize M5 rotors as they are designed to work with 400mm rotors vs 395 on the front.

It looks like caliper itself is same, but bracket is bigger to accommodate 385mm rotor.

Can the 50i caliper be used with the M bracket, so you can have the larger piston caliper with the larger 385mm rotor?

Oh, so it is indeed bigger? This is interesting.

In any case since 385mm rotor is bigger - it's going to resist heat better - which will lead to less fade and less vibration due to heat distortion. Plus it looks gorgeous. As I said right now people only stare at my front brakes, but if I had 385mm rear rotors - they would stare at both

All the bolt holes align exactly so I would say yes.

That's great info. It looks like a bracket might be all you need for a decent rear brake upgrade for the 50i guys.

Yes! And most importantly you won't need to touch e-brake system or bleed calipers - just gently unbolt them, swap bracket and rotor and bolt it back

P.S. the only issue is that it's probably not as easy to find just brackets for cheap.

So we need this carrier part? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-BMW...QAAOSw-btavVh7

Or is there an adapter to use our current carrier?

Yes, that's the bigger bracket to accommodate 385mm rotor. So for 2 brackets it's $460 - kinda almost not worth it. Just my opinion man.

P.S. I haven't seen other adapter, but who knows - maybe there is one.

Not worth it at all. Wish I just would’ve held out for a complete f85 kit..... you can get a used set of rear calipers with the brackets on eBay for under 400 but again, I don’t know if it’s worth it.

I held out for the f85 kit and can assure you it's not worth it. Much harder to find brake pads and the rears aren't worth it at all.

Now the M5 rear is even larger so maybe holding out for that is worth it lol

Yeah, I still remember the thread that prompted me to upgrade my brakes in the first place. I was salivating over f10 M5 brakes in that thread - post #3, but at that time I wasn't able to find parts for it on ebay without spending tons of money. Not sure if things have changed much now. https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1450854

I'm trying to talk myself into just buying a set of rear X5M calipers. That way I can just take the front and rear calipers to get powder coated and don't have to worry about the vehicle being down for any time.

Other option is to just keep the rears the way they are and use G2 paint while the brakes are still on the car. Mod decisions shouldn't be this hard.
