The issue I have is with two kids in the second row with child seats. There's no way for someone to get in the 3rd row w/o having them crawl through the trunk and believe me, I would not get kind words from my mother in-law but I would enjoy the show .

I don't think its suitable for a normal child seat, and bmw don't recommend it. The seat belt is different to a normal seat belt, so might not fit properly if you could fit the seat itself. Apparently booster cushions will work ok.

I take it you can't put 2 child seats next to each other on the second row and still allow one side of the second row to fold forward for third seat access, correct?

I am not sure of this configuration b/c I have rear entertainment. The kid sitting in the middle would complain about not being in front of a screen :-)

Can I clarify what, if anything, I lose regarding suspension if I order 3rd seats on the M Sport?
I understand the M Sport comes as standard with Adaptive M Suspension and I do not require anything more than that, but if I order 3rd row do I receive anything else with regard to suspension or is anything removed?
Thanks

When I configured mine online, it omits DHP if you get the 3rd Row.
The 3rd row Package automatically changes your rear suspension to Air

Anybody who got the 3rd row can confirm if there is an anchor on the back of the 3rd row seats to attach the car seat.

In the pictures, I see it only on the back of the 2nd row but non on the 3rd row.

If that is the case, it means no car seats in the 3rd row.

There's anchors right on the body behind the 3rd row, but now behind the seat, like the 2nd row does

...for reference

I have the 3rd Row Seat option and here are some facts

-Rear Comfort Seats and Rear Air Suspension comes standard when you pick 3rd Row Seat package
-You can move the seat forward and back about 6 inches
-They recline about 10-15 degrees
-40/20/40 configuration

Pictures:

Seat pushed forward, and reclined forward

Seat all the way down by pressing the top button, then the lever beside it to completely unlatch the back mount for better access to the 3rd row

40 and 20 pushed forward

This was the same reasoning I used to decide on the spare tire over the third row seat. I don't have children at home and the third row seat is not for adults!

I got the 3rd row with my M-Sport. No regrets. Nice to have for those times where you need the extra seating. In the 4 months I've had the vehicle, I've used them three times. Haven't tried to squeeze an adult back there, its always been 3 to 5 year olds.

Hi,
I think i maybe in the market for another x5 but this time for my wife. She wants to give up her 2014 odyssey elite for a Q7 or X5. We have 4 kids (12-11-5-3) of one has a full car seat and the other one in a booster.
Any suggestions for the family car? I think we are going to give up the space and comfort. And im not driving a minivan, happy with my f10 msport

The MDX is built for three seats. Decent value on lower models. But infotainment and shifting is a wreck to use. Fast acceleration. Not German.

X5 with 3rd row will be cramped for you and unsafe for the occupants in rear end crash. Maybe consider larger vehicle like MB GL/GLS?

I agree with Snow-Kidney. Acura MDX and the MB GL/GLS are good options. Other good options are the Audi Q7 and the Volvo XC90. It all depends on your budget and preference. For your needs the X5 is not functional enough since the 3rd row seats will be cramped. Personally, I will go for the MB GL/GLS but you should do some research and go for a test drive of all the options you are considering. All the best.

Hi, sorry to resurrect such old thread, but wouldn't it be a little easier to un-buckle one of the car seat's seat belt for people to go into the 3rd row. I have a 2 and 4yr old with full size car seats, so I'm considering if I should add the 3rd row.

I wish I had it in my E70 when my kids were that age as they started to have play dates after school and it would have been very useful when I had to have multiple kids in my car. I just bought an F15 and got the 3rd row for that reason plus if I have family staying and we need to go somewhere close like a restaurant (not really for long distances).

Also once they get into booster seats it is so easy to take the booster in and out of the car.

I don't think I will use often but handy to have the option.

Another note, in Canada you can't have DHC with 3rd row (unlike in the US). I got Dynamic Comfort Suspension though.

+1 I got it for the same reason for those rare ocassions. It is easier to put someone in the 3rd row seat that asking them to sit in the trunk
Just recently we decided to go with my car instead of my wifes car (bigger) about 40 miles away from our house. Since One kid was in boyscouts and the other 3 were with us , I didnt see the need to drive the other car plus i enjoy my f15 better. so we went. there, there was a couple that needed a ride since they had a few too many drinks so the 3rd row cam in handy (for the note i sent the 13 and 6 year old back there not the adults :-) )
So if you have a big family or surrounded by one, get the 3rd row
