Try my buddy George Javier over at Rallye BMW.
I am currently working on my 5th BMW (X5M) with him. The level of service I've been getting st Rallye is second to none. Tell him Alan L. referred you. Alan |

I suspect the folks that got 10+% did so in part because there was some BMW support/incentives at the time. Currently there aren't any real incentives (1k perhaps) to make that easy. |

A lot has to do with how man allocations your dealer has for an X5M. From what I was told dealers don't get as many M allocations as they do for regular X5's so they want to make as much profit on each car as possible.

Anything near invoice "without incentives baked in". Too greedy gets you a no response on their end. Most likely the number ends a few grand north of invoice. Throw in any incentives and it's a win.

I could order one to my specs for right above invoice, wouldn't be worth getting one off the lot for that.

96 would be a steal, literally - that's 15% off MSRP. 100 (12%) would be great. Keep in mind that there's 7% markup over invoice, and then dealers have a 5% reserve that they may collect only a portion of depending on other variables. At best, dealer breaks even at 12%, and that won't happen. So without BMW support via incentives, 10-11% should be considered a great deal, I think.

I also thought carry costs would be something they'd be interested in avoiding, but after a surprisingly candid conversation with a dealer, it turns out those costs aren't a big factor. The "trick" to find the best deal is to cast a wide net and find that one dealer who wants to move an in-stock vehicle or even sell an ordered one at a small profit. If you find a dealer that can collect the full 5% reserve, they may be willing to shave a few of those % off and you can buy below invoice. However, it's basic economics at the end of the day - if there's sufficient demand for their M cars or sales are otherwise adequate, they won't budge much. The consumer has the advantage of buying a fungible product and there are many dealers to choose from if one doesn't restrict themselves geographically. |
