How do you go about updating the system? I have a 2017 and want to get the latest version. Is this done at a dealership?

I went to the Bimmer-Code website and made an inquiry that included my SW version and VIN. The next day I received a response and told me what to buy. It was surprising how inexpensive it was to update.

I bought a MMI kit from Ebay and installed it as per the various instructions found online. It's being used with an Android phone (Pixel).
Everything works, sound is great, back up camera works etc.

Problem is....sometimes it just loses connection and I get the MMI menu that has carplay, andoid auto etc etc on it. I can't figure out how to get it working again short of turning the ignition off.
Also, if I press the wrong idrive button I get the main iDrive menu and can't get back to the MMI mirroring....unless I turn off the ignition.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what is causing this ?

I have an e-net cable already.

There were a couple of files that they emailed to me. I put them on a USB drive and plugged it into the port above the cup holders. Followed the directions in the email and boom.
