M-Sport Steering Wheel Retrofit

Hello everybody, just purchased a X5 xDrive50i and am loving it. I am coming from a F30 335i. I am not a fan of the steering wheel that is on my car at the moment. I know I can just buy an M Performance wheel with alcantara or the leather m sport wheel. However I know I need to change the airbag as well. Can I purchase an airbag from sellers in Lithuania? If I remember correctly I've read that the us and European airbags are different (stage 1/stage 2).
I also have the Lane departure warning so my steering wheel has the vibrating motor. Can I simply transfer that to the new wheel or do I need to buy a new vibration motor as well?

Essentially

1. Can I use an airbag that's come out of an X5 in Lithuania?
2. Do I have to purchase a new motor for the lane departure warning or can I simply transfer it to the new wheel?

Airbag is the same, its the sensors that plug into the car. Some members have transferred the US airbag from the old cover into the new cover (search)

The vibration motor is a different size between the two wheels and not compatible. Seen the m-sport motors on ebay for sale

So I do not have an m sport wheel currently. I got a good deal on a new M Performance steering wheel so I purchased that. From my understanding, now I have to buy the vibration motor, airbag, trim and multifunction buttons. Am I missing anything? And purchasing an airbag meant for an m sport from an eBay seller that sends it from Europe should be okay?

Thanks guys.

Any luck with the conversion? I've been thinking about doing the same. Pretty good deal for the M Performance steering wheel at my dealership

It is do-able.
You just need to get all the options matched up.
I have done a few sets through out the years.
Feel free to PM me with last 7 of your VIN and I'll put together a quote for it.

I have this bookmarked for the day I want the m-sport steering
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/BMW-1-2-3-X3-...53.m1438.l2649

It has to be ordered with vibration for ldw and if you are replacing a heated steering you must order a heated one.

I purchased the steering wheel itself from getbmwparts for 365. I haven?t purchased the rest of the parts however I have all the part numbers for the equipment required for a retrofit. If I can use my basic steering wheel airbag that would awesome but don?t think that?s doable. RG can you confirm if I can use the basic wheel airbag in a m performance wheel?

Here is a list of the parts needed for a retrofit according to dealer.

If you are upgrading from Non M-Sport steering wheel, you can't re-use the airbag due to its shape.
But if you are, the round airbag is interchangeable between the M Sport and M Performance steering wheel.

Isn't the m sport version cheaper?

That's what I thought, thank you for confirming!
