Fun Car wash experience!

So decided to take the wife’s X5 to the touchless car wash today after we went to dinner to clean off some of the pollen. Only to hear some excessive noise when the sprayers went over the top. Came to find out when we started driving that a bunch of water had gotten in the sunroof and was now pouring on my wife’s lap….

So…so fun!

I’m Hoping it’s as simple as the sunroof was slightly open but I don’t think so. I’m more Inclined to think the water pressure deformed the seal somehow. The Sunroof was closed when we got there and I pushed once to open the sunshade portion. And didn’t touch it again. So for it to be cracked ever so slightly just doesn’t make sense.

Sunroofs don't really seal to prevent water from entering, they drain to release the water. If water is getting in your car from the sunroof, it is likely a clogged drain. Here's a thread that details a solution: https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1705112

Which direction did you push the button to open the shade?

If I push upward on my sunroof switch…it puts it in VENT mode and the shade moves backwards. If I push the switch backwards (to the rear of the vehicle)…then only the shade opens.

haha. i pulled it backward. i know if you just push up it only cracks the sunshade a couple inches and i wanted the shade open not the glass. so i for sure pushed back because the shade opened up.

and to the other guy, yes i am aware of the clogged drain bit. Still need to check that but my biggest clue as to the seal issue is the noise was different than i am used to. it sounded louder than usual. I take her car to the touchless car wash several times over a year because i barely have enough time /energy to hand wash my M5 much less her car to. haha
