DINANTRONICS Sport Performance Tuner for N55 Engines (BMW ‘F’ Series)

My son found this for his M235 (F22) which I think he will get to compliment his Dinan Cold Air Intake. I found out this is compatible for the F15 X5 35i http://www.dinancars.com/product/d44...ries&mid=1210/ Has anyone installed this on their X5 and if so, what are your thoughts? Great price for $299 which I'm sure was meant to compete with the Race Chip. DINANTRONICS Sport Maximum Gains (N55): Up to 30 HP, 40 lb-ft of torque.

I don't really understand why these plugin boxes are so popular in the US. Where I live, chip tuning, means going to a tuner who will put your car on a bench and optimize the mappings of your engine to gain pk/hp. That way, all safety features of your ecu are still in place and nothing is bypassed which could cause damage to the engine. These tuning boxes are about 300-600 euro's. Going to a real tuner is about 500-800. For such a small difference, why take such a change/gamble? Or am I missing something?

So I picked up a Dinan Cold Air Intake and 2 Dinantronics Sport Tuners (one for my son's M235 and one for my Wife's X5). The mistake I made was installing the Dinan CAI and tuner on the M235 and taking that for a spin. The combination of the CAI and Tuner on the M235 with MPE was unreal. It was so quick off the line and we were at incredible speeds in such a short period of time I was worried the tires couldn't handle it. It was such a rush. I than installed the Dinantronics Sport Tuner on the X5 M Sport but it was not even close to what I experienced in the M235 and because of this I didn't get a good sense of what the tune actually did to the X5. The Dinan Tuner only kicks in at sport or sport + mode and has no impact on Eco or Comfort. I downloaded the App which I thought was pretty cool because it connects to the Tuner and you can adjust the PSI from -3 to 4. I'll give it a good run tomorrow as my wife is up at the cottage with my vehicle so I got lots of time to test it out.

So had a pretty good go at it today. I noticed a difference in the acceleration between the gears. Found the tune to be very smooth unlike the BMS Chip my brother has on his 535xi. Nothing special off the line. The app gives you a number of settings which is neat. Note, that selection can't be made on the fly. You need to make any changes before turning on the car. Wife is still at the cottage so I'll continue the testing.

One thing I think would help with the Turbo lag is a Cold Air Intake. Judging by the M235 that got the Dinan installed it made a big difference with little to no Turbo lag.

Hey Guys, sorry for the late reply. I've driven the X5 now for a couple of weeks. I notice the chip's increased performance more so in Sports mode throughout the gears Even Comfort and Eco mode has a bit of get up and go. No change in gas mileage. Note, it's been very hot and very humid. Thought the $400 CAD wasn't a major investment for a bit of performance lift. BTW, for some reason it made a hell of a difference on M235 with the CAI. Maybe the combination of CAI and the Chip...scary fast.

Maybe dinan is adding 2-3lbs of boost and that is more meaningful to the M235 based on its setup. I wouldn't have thought that a CAI would make that much of a difference but who knows.

Interesting that a dealer installed the dinan - essentially no warranty issues since the fewer installed, unless they asked you to sign a waiver.

I waned to buy RC but this could be a reasonable option - with warranty. Though I am conflicted with your review - not being overly excited about performance pickup.

Thanks for posting.

Dealer didn't install it. I did it which took a minute. Really easy. Not sure how different the RC is versus the Dinan. The Dinan is suppose to give you 4 PSI at the highest level.

I assumed when you bought it from the dealer that they installed it. Another assumption (maybe not well placed) is if a dealer sells it to you that they will cover warranty. It would be hard for a dealer to say no warranty unless they have you sign a waiver.

FYI - this particular tune does not have warranty... Hence the price at $300

WARRANTY: DINANTRONICS Sport does not carry the factory matching warranty that Dinan is known for. DINANTRONICS Sport's warranty is a 1 year product only warranty that does not cover consequential damages or labor reimbursement.

I have the MPPK installed on my ‘17 X5, looking at adding the dinantronics also. Would that be compatible?

I have heard of people running RC and the regular dinan tune with it but not sure about dinantronics sport, I’m sure it will work.

No, there is another one at around 2K retail that's stacks up well with MPPK.
