Centre Console USB Retrofit

Has anyone retrofitted the USB port located in the lower trim on the dash? This is found on 2017 cars specified with enhanced bluetooth with wireless charging.

The bit im struggling with is finding the correct trim piece with the USB socket attached to it. I'm okay with the connections to the NBT2 headunit. The part ive located is item 16 in the diagram below
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=51_9158

Part no. 51459389628

I've priced this up with bmw and they advised £22.72 which suggests it wont have the usb port attached to it. Can anyone help identifying the correct part number needed for the panel and the USB port. The alternative is to fit the USB port to the glovebox but i would prefer the centre console option.

For that price, I would just order it and find out.
I don't think the USB port is sold separately. I can't find it anywhere in the parts catalog as being sold separately.

The part will take 3 weeks to come so thought I would ask on here first in case I'm missing something and I can order the parts together. Otherwise I'll order it and see how it goes

It would be nice to have more than one USB charger without having to put in a cigarette socket

The main unit of the nbt unit allows for 2 USB ports. USB1 and USB2

USB1 connection is used for the arm rest connection

With USB2 If Enhanced Bluetooth is specified then
Pre 2017 it's connected to a phone cradle in the center arm rest
Post 2017 it's connected to a USB port below the climate controls on the dash

If enhanced Bluetooth is not specified the USB2 is not utilized

So the connections there to use if needed

Interesting. I find the enhanced USB a bit pointless since it requires a $200 piece to even connect my phone. And on top of that I like to use my Waze app and can't do that if it's in the glove box lok

EBT is useful if you need to connect 2 phones to the bluetooth connection at the same time, say a work phone and a personal phone. You can make and receive calls on both. EBT also activates the second USB connection which is useful as you can have a USB flash drive permanently plugged in for music. Leaving a spare to charge a phone or whatever. I dont regret not speccing it from factory as i dont need wireless charging or apple carplay, the other features can be coded and the second USB can be retrofitted cheaply.

I def wouldn't mind the wireless charging. I wonder if that can be modded. That would solve my need for a second USB port potentially.

Thanks for the pic. To be honest, it looks a bit cheap.

Maybe but it's quite a handy location, as opposed to the glovebox

Agreed. It's just a USB port in the same existing trim piece lol

I've ordered the trim piece but its on back order so waiting for it to arrive. But here's a thread from the f30 forum which uses the same principle

I'm removing my snap in adapter so I would like an additional USB. Not like I would keep long cable plugged in at all times.

Yes the trim piece arrived a few weeks back but there was no USB socket attached to it which was expected given the price. The dealer couldn't find the part no for the socket and put in a query with bmw. This was clarified earlier this week and the USB socket arrived today. So I have everything to hand and need to remove the nbt unit to fit the wiring and swap out the trim piece. I'm planning to do that this week. Anyone have tips for removing the nbt unit?
