MPE Installed

Just had my MPE installed today, big difference from stock, sounds so much better. I could say it sounds similar to a Ghibli.

Thanks to Alan l. for the installer recommendation!

Do wish BMW made some quad pipes or something to differentiate the MPE though.

Reasonable at $140, so like 1 hour labor.

When you say Ghibli, regular mode or sports mode? Cause its big difference in sound.

The MPE is bit louder than the stock but not that loud right?

I'd say somewhere between normal and sport mode.

From the interior in Sports+ with the windows open, it really isn't as loud as some people think it is, it may even be a bit quiet for some. However, it's a huge difference on the outside, definitely turns heads lol.

With that being said, depends on what your perception of loud is. For me, I wanted something comfortable without being obnoxiously loud, which I think the MPE does perfectly.

Only negative, it does make me want to drive faster and more aggressively

It doesn't sound anything close to a Ghibli in any mode.

At the end of the day, the X5 is still considered a family car and I don't think BMW wanted to make their X5 sound like a WRX or a Nissan GT-R. I don't think majority of us would want it to be that loud either, it's not like the MPE has active exhaust where we can switch to loud and quiet mode.

I think the exhaust note and sound volume is just perfectly balanced. When you stomp on the gas, the sound of the exhaust lets you and others know that you have a special X5. At lower RPM's you still have that burble and growl.. Most of my friends that are driving behind me tell me the exhaust sounds pretty good and it is noticeably loud.

Idk i think OP is right, between regular and sports mode on a Ghibli. Reg mode on the ghibli is quiet, id know cause my partner has one.

OP, try getting a tune if you want a bit louder.

I have a '16 SQ4 and my little sister has a '17 base model, the SQ4 is significantly louder in both modes vs the base (I've revved them side by side) and MPE doesn't sound like either.

MPE does improve the sound of the 35i.

That's how I would describe it as, what would you say it sounds like?

Definitely has that nice balance and makes it into a somewhat exciting family car, well worth the money.

I have the MPPK already and it's still not that loud from the inside, just how I like it, so no complaints.

Im in the market for some quad tips as well. Let me know if you find ones that fits into the msport bumper. I feel like the holes are too small to fit a quad setup, then I might be wrong.

That looks sweet! I read about the Hamann exhaust, wonder how difficult it would be to attach the tips to the MPE...

I have been researching this topic hard as of late. Meistercraft's tips are 102mm diameter each so I would assume it could accommodate up to that size. If not, some trimming of the outlet in the bumper would be minimal. Most other aftermarket systems I have found are all 89mm-90mm (supersprint, AC schnitzer, eisenmann, hamann). So you would be safe going 90mm quad tips I would assume. I have also found some suitable replacements that can be welded on.

So I know some of you will not be happy with the fugazzi Akrapovic tips, but the quality seems to be quite nice. Judging by reviews they are solid and come in many inlet diameters, as well as both 101mm and 89mm outlet. They are definitely too long for any straight fit, but look like there should be enough meat to chop off to get it fairly close. Not an easy job, and a great welder seems to be the key - well that and keeping them straight! Anyway, hope this helps a bit.

I currently have a RGsport exhaust that I am sitting on because I have been trying to find a suitable quad tip. The above is the direction I am going to go, only in all black with 101mm outlet.

Pics are of a full meistercraft system or approx size, and the second are a version of the Akrapovic tips that I found. They are available on eBay as well as AliExpress and cost under $200 usd for a set.

Found the video that is awesome. Definitely on the list. Do modified exhausts throw any codes? Also my guess is this should not impact warranty.
