It simple comes from this mechanism that must be lubricate with a sliding grease.

...or you have a plugged EGR cooler, or both. Or it's defect... or your intake manifold has carbon/sooth built up that restricts airflow...

In case somebody needs to replace theirs, this EGR cooler and Valve/Actuator only has a few thousand miles on it...

I recently received a letter stating BMW is extending the warranty on the EGR valve and EGR cooler to 10 years / 120k.

There is a global recall on EGR Valve Cooler, possibly related to the recent incidents in South Korea, where BMWs caught fire.

Better check with your dealer.

Could you possibly post a picture of the letter for those that did not get one of these letters, so once somebody has an issue they could take it with them to the dealer?

Did you check the error code using Carly, Bimmerlink or something similar? I had the following error but no CEL:
255C00: Exhaust gas recirculation control, position control: valve too open / negative control deviation
Had the EGR valve replaced yesterday under warranty. 30 000 km. Only symptom was loss of power.

there is no error code appear with bimmerlink, but definitly it comes from here. Put the sliding grease and since 4 days there is no more error Think this error appear and disapear when the valve is blocked or stay open all the time until its deblock himself.

My dealer replaced the EGR, it was covered by warranty. Unfortunately there are still 3 lambda errors left that they did not solve. I told the dealer about the error i found with Bimmerlink and he told me that as long as the car has no symptoms and no CEL, i should be fine. I am afraid there is another EGR replacement incoming.
