Thoughts on Dynamic Handling Package?
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Can anyone comment on the DHP now that you've had time to put some mileage on your X5? Do you think DHP was worth the cost, and would you order it again? I'm hoping that the DHP can really give the ride of the comfort setting around town, as well as sharp handling with little body roll on twisting roads. If it can delver on both counts, it might be worth stretching the wallet a little more. Thanks for any information! |

Aaron, reading between the lines I can assume one thing, you should definitely get the DHP.
Why, because you have a Porsche Boxter. Not that it is a "magical" or Super car, but because it tells me you are a car guy and enjoy driving. I have found there are huge differences in models with and without this option, no matter the name of it or the brand it comes on. But then again, I have had people say, "Why would you buy a BMW when you can buy 2 Kias for the same money". To them I say, "If I have to explain why, I am just wasting my breath". |

Good catch, Windy- I am definitely a car guy! Love my Boxster, and it will great to have a daily driver that is nearly as much fun to drive. For a mid sized SUV the X5 is a lot of fun to drive (judging by just a couple of test drives), and the DHP will likely make it that much better. Just wish it was not so expensive!

If the dynamic suspension is the same as adaptive drive on the e70, then I highly recommend it. Actually I have not owned a e70 without it. I had a comparable e70 loaner with out the AD and it felt completely different and would never go back.

I ordered a 35d and didn't get the dynamic handling package. I kind of figured since I was getting the lowest performance model in the X5 line it wasn't a fitting option. On the other hand if I were getting the 50i I would have ordered it.
What model are you considering? |

I ordered my truck without DHP. I have a 2011 50i without it and really didn't miss it too much. I know that DHP can perform a few functions more than handling improvements and body roll, but for $4500 extra I thought I could use the $$$$ some place else. For me, I can't justify the added cost.

I've owned BMW's with torque vectoring (X6)...I'll guarantee anyone if you drive and X5 with DHP right with an X5 w/out DHP - you will notice a substantial difference..
That said? $4500 is a big chunk of change and its entirely subjective as to whether it is "worth it" or not

Get it. I have it and its amazing. I will never ever buy a BMW without it. I doubt you will able find one with dhp on the lot to test drive it.

It delivers on both counts. I have sport mode configured for drivetrain only and I love the setting. Very comfortable and sporty ride. Making sharp turns is lot of fun. |

Nice. How about reliability of the DHP? Do I expect to replace it in 5 years? |

Thanks for all of the input. I managed to find a 35d with DHP that was available to test drive. The roads around the dealer weren't necessarily the best for trying it out, but I have to say I didn't notice a huge difference over the base suspension. Will keep it in mind, but at this point I am leaning toward saving the $4500. Will likely pester you all with more questions soon! Thanks!
