Any Racechip updates for 35d?

Well the 35d has been on the road for about two years now. I know there have been some great discussions on the various tuning chips (i.e. Racechip). So, what is the general opinion now that we have more miles on these vehicles? do you still think it is a worthwhile upgrade?

What are the pro and cons?

Works very well. Not aware of anything else added recently to the excellent chart MATTBIANCO wrote up.

I plan to take the plunge myself - the 35d could use a bit more umph - great off the line, but fades quickly

I've had good exp. with it so far. Got about 2k miles running at E0 setting.
Ordered from RGSport and shipped fast. Thanks!

I just came back from a 1200 mile road trip, it performed like a champ.
Highway passing is effortless with the added power, especially in sport mode.
You can go from 80 - 95 in less time than you expect. It really catches you off guard some times, given what a comfortable cruiser the X5 already is.
I do notice Chevron seems to perform a little better than Shell though. Chevron is a bit louder , but gives better/faster throttle response, worse MPG.
No CEL so far. Power delivery is as smooth as stock.

I've been using racechip Pro 2 on the 35d for about 8 months, and initially thought it didnt make much of an impact. Turned it up to E2 really helped. Took it off last weekend as I went offroading and didn't want any CELs over the weekend and immediately noticed how much of a difference it made. Very sluggish without the chip. Main difference is that it reduces the laggy feeling you get in comfort mode. Sport mode feels about the same, and I never even bother with eco mode.

Exactly, comfort mode is where it helps the most. More responsive. Sport mode for me feels more aggressive compared to stock. If you punch it, it really moves! I'm happy with E0 and don't want to push it too far.

Yes, it's worth it for simple improvement in drivability - throttle response and torque improvement to 3500 rpm. If you plan to keep the car for a couple years, don't go above the stock (or shipped) values. Each click is only 1 1/2% improvement but there are diminishing returns. Even though the US motor is detuned because of emissions, the detuning is not just lower fuel and fuel timing. It's other things like boost, when boost is applied (VGT), when fuel is applied in conjunction with boost, and so on.

Anyway, mine is dialed back from OEM (since I bought the car, not leased) and it works well.

Here is my feedback based on a 40D fitted with RC Ultimate after 2 months. Started with stock settings as received from RC which were S1:F and S2:C. Ran for one month, no obvious impact other than it picked up a bit quicker at 1500 RPM in Comfort mode, as someone else mentioned it then fades, so no obvious power increase. Month 2 ran it with S1:F and S2:E, pretty much same experience tbh. Had a Service 2 days ago so took the RC out, main thing I noticed is the pick up at in my case 1500 RPM, I did not feel any power change with the RC out. Would I recommend, not really but maybe its because mine is a 40D. Just for interest here is what RC emailed me:
Per our phone conversation, here is the information about how to change the settings in your RaceChip Ultimate for your BMW X5 (F15) xDrive40d 230kW.

We deliver each RaceChip with the basic settings, this are the optimum ratio between more power and less fuel consumption.
On average, the RaceChip Ultimate increases the power of the engine up to 20%.

I'ts hard to tell what the maximum settings for your vehicle are without some testing. Each engine is driven under different conditions and different maintenances, which can lead to different results. Therefore, in order to reach the maximum potential for your vehicle, we will have to make some adjustments to S1/S2

With the rotary switch S2 the performance of the RaceChip can be increased or reduced.

From the basic setting "C" every other position you increase clockwise is a further increase of about 1.5%, up to the maximum position, “7” (values on the website).
If you twist the switch on the opposite direction, the output will decrease 1.5%, up to a minimum of ca. 5% at position 8.

The rotary switch S1 controls when the RaceChip will switch off.
In the basic setting"F" of the RaceChip has an average of 1500-3500 RPM. Each additional position clockwise is an extension of the activity by about 200 RPM, anti-clockwise to a corresponding reduction.

Please increase the values one at the time and make a test-drive. Increasing more than two values at once could lead into error messages.

For your vehicle the recomended performance levels are S1/S2:
Level 1: F/D
Level 2: 0/F

You can find here the dyno Graphic of your RaceChip Ultimate (Click on the graphic icon):
http://www.racechip.it/chiptuning/bm...drive40d-230kw

So you can see direct from RC there is a wide adjustment (7 settings!) of S2 (performance) although not sure I am brave enough to go much higher than
S2:E. Any other diesel users gone beyond S2:E and lived to tell the tale?

I drive all the time in sport mode, so you think it's not worth it to get RC in my case?

Stage 1 tune: 330hp 550tq. These numbers are tempting.. I'd like to hear from someone who's been using this for over a year to share their experience..

DUDMD is one of the best shops on the west coast for work and tuning. Lots of guys running their tunes that aren't on these forums

I would recommend ECU remap over the plug in chip personally. Highly recommend DUDMD. Currently, my x5 has a turbo upgrade, tcu tune, custom exhaust and, ecu remap from darkside developments (UK). I am still sorting out the tune, but my x5 is always pulling a trailer etc.

Out of curiosity - why would you modify and upgrade an x5 you use as a workhorse? Why not get a truck that's already factory prepared for towing etc?

Fully agreed on ECU remap over plug-in tune, of course.

Because i like the BWM diesels. Also i am not pulling heavy loads to justify getting a cummins or duramax. The x5 tows just fine for my needs and it is a nice cruiser as well. But honestly i like all the bmw diesel. I have a 535d and 335d as well.

Have had RC for 5+ years. I did just upgrade to the RaceChip RS from the ultimate (mainly because I had some issues with the US 35d that are pointing back to the EGR being faulty (BMW pointed to RC) - hint/hint, get that replaced under warranty if you are nearing 7 years and 70,000 miles). I upgraded for under $400 and now can change settings with an external dial.

My need was when we were doing about 50MPH and the passing HP was lacking. RC makes a difference. It's also better of the line etc... Simple to install, talk to RG if you get a chance. Good video here too, they do provide feedback and testing to back their claims:

Hey! Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but can you tell me a bit more about DarksideDevelopments and your X5? You have an F15? How's the drivability after figuring out the tune? I've just ordered their ECU remap and was curious how the experience was.

Thank you!
