How would you make your X5/X6 better?

I'm sure you all love your BMW's as much as I love mine since they are incredible engineering and design accomplishments... but can you guys think of anything that BMW could have done better with the X5/X6? I might be wrong about some of this stuff but after some use this is just my humble opinion.

For me on my 2016 X6:

-Remote trunk button pull up to open the hatch instead of push down.

-Bottle holder in door a little smaller so you don't scuff the door with your foot when getting out and to hold bottle a little tighter- I usually leave my oversized thermos at home.

-Door handle from inside designed so that your watch doesn't scratch the door panel when opening the door. Same problem on my MY 2014 X6M.

-Seat bottoms on the multi-contour seat flatter like my 2014 MY X6M. To me the seat bottoms feel like my wife's previous car, a 2013 Mercedes GL550 in that the seat presses on the sides of my butt too much(not the bolster's, just the seat bottoms concavity). 6'0" and 185lbs in case you're wondering.

-Slightly bigger side-view mirrors like my 2014 X6M.

-Remote hatch opener on key responding with just one press and not the hold...sometimes until the alarm comes on. This is still the same as my 2006 MY 530XiT

That's all I can think of for now, and as I said I am extremely happy with my BMW's, but I'm interested to see what you think could be done better or different.

Improve the leather quality on the front seats. My mocha interior turns blue (blue jeans) within 2 weeks of driving. Make adaptive speed control standard equipment. Activate a ton of features that are now only available through coding - like folding mirrors when locked, turn signal indicators shown in HUD, etc.

+1 on the coding. No reason we should have to hack the ecu of a $70k vehicle to adjust some of the most basic and common sense settings.

Adjust the steering weight independent of the driving mode.

Agreed, also an even more comfortable ride quality.

I agree about the steering, I feel like it's too light.

I also agree that it would be nice to have an even softer suspension setting for my M-sport, although for the most part I love the suspension.

Heated steering wheel button needs moved to somewhere more easily seen.

And steering should have ability to be modified independent of drivetrain mode.

My 06 530XiT has the heating button on the steering column too, yet my 2014 X6 has the button on the steering wheel.

My son is pretty happy that they located the lock/unlock buttons on the doors, unlike my 06 and 14 which have it on the center of the dash.

Coding some items need to be added into IDrive. Rear camera and sensors need to be standard. M Performance Carbon bits need to come from factory. Rear stretched fenders instead of plastic add ons

Nav should not forget where I was with inputting my destination just because I put the car in reverse.

I should be able to cancel the entertainment turning off.

Euro mirrors, Euro headlights. When the FMVSS comes complaining, bitch slap them. If more of them come back, bitch slap them more. (I know this last one won't happen, but one can dream, right?)

Compared to my e70 X5d the F15 is a big improvement in most areas. A few things are disappointing: (1) steering: way too light (feels like a Buick); steering wheel rim is thinner and harder; steering wheel does not adjust down far enough; did I mention the steering feel being too light; (2) mirrors are too small (why did you shrink them BMW?); (3) where in the hell did the door pull handle on the driver side door go???? - really, a four inch wide recessed door pull is what we get instead!?

I can't believe how high the lowest setting is. Coupled with the light steering feel it's a little like driving the bumper cars at the amusement park.

.

Things that have to do with the steering wheel
  • dramatically increase steering feel
  • lower steering wheel adjustment
  • eliminate horn delay
  • steering wheel heat should be hotter & more uniform
  • move steering wheel heater switch so you can see indicator (top of column?)
  • entertainment volume buttons should be on left side of wheel

Other
  • offer option: remote start (regardless of Euro anti-idling laws, offer in NA/AU)
  • offer option: factory installed Adv Car Eye HD F&R (BMW dashcam)
  • offer option: roof rails delete (X6 comes without, why not X5?)
  • offer option: factory installed tow hitch receiver
  • incorporate into iDrive all the choices we currently have to code
  • internet connection 3G? seriously?
  • M-sport lower grills should be open (like M50D) now they just look silly
  • rear turn signals should be Amber, and Red Rear Fog Lights should be added
  • Proper mechanical e-brake with handle ( for e-brake turns )
  • New formulation of shadowline trim so it doesn't stain in carwashes

Things that shouldn't be changed
  • The comfort seats are perfect ( sorry str8line )
  • pretty much everything else

.

Excellent list. And the comfort seats are great...until you go back and forth with the old ones.

  1. HORN DELAY - beyond unacceptable that this issue even exists.
  2. Steering wheel - just a tab bit firmer would be nice. But I've grown to appreciate the light steering feel. Helps when u-turning and navigating through tight corners and parking lots.
  3. Carpets - adhesive under the carpets are not good quality. Carpet rolls forward bunches up where the accelerator and brake pedals are. Safety issue, actually.
  4. iDrive knob - tightens up.

Can't think of any other right now. Other than that. the X5 is just pure excitement.

Agreed with many about volume buttons. Why are they on a right side of the steering wheel? If i use my right hand to adjust the volume i might as well simply turn a knob on the radio itself. Which actually just few inches away.

Absolutely, it makes perfect sense for those who have steering wheel on the right. However manufacturers adjust other things in R vs L cars. I have a car in Turks and Caicos. It is with R steering wheel and i know that windshield wipers - turn signal combo is in mirrored order.
