Launch Control

Those of us that are lucky to have passed our break in milestone, has anyone attempted Launch Control?

Is it even a "feature" of the F85/F86?

Yes, Launch Control is a feature of the F85/F86, but I haven't tried it yet. I need to find an open stretch of road, because I know this thing will shoot off like a rocket.

What is the correct sequence to use to do it. I've read some things for older models but these amazing machines are a different "beast".

I do get amazing acceleration from a "limit line" just by flooring it "normally"

I'm not sure, but I know there is a section in the Owner's Manual that covers it.

I'm in the same boat. I have just under 3k miles and am excited to give LC a try. Unfortunately, I haven't found the right place/time to give it a go yet. I'd like to try using the M app at the same time, to see what it gives me as my 0-60.

So far I've had some difficulty getting accurate info from the app...

I just checked the manual:

To activate Launch Control:
1. Deactivate Dynamic Stability Control or activate M Dynamic mode.
2. Select Sequential mode with gear 1 and driving program 3.
3. With the engine running, firmly apply the brake with the left foot.
4. Depress the accelerator pedal far enough that a flag symbol us displayed in the instrument cluster. Keep accelerator pedal in this position. The starting engine speed adjusts.
5. Within 3 seconds, release the brake. The vehicle accelerates.

Has anyone had success using the Launch Control? I tried to activate it a few times and I couldn't get the flag to appear on the dash.

I'm past my break-in period and I followed the instructions in my post above.

Any suggestions???

Did you use the steps listed in my Post #7 above? I couldn't get LC to activate using those steps.

Nice video by the way, and impressive times!

No, but it should be something similar. I know M6/M5 are DCT while the X5M/6 have the 8ZF.

The correct sequence should be as I posted in post #7 above. Those instructions were taken directly from the F85 X5M Owner's manual. It's a different set of steps than the DCT M5/M6.

Thanks!

When I tried it, I didn't press the accelerator fully. That's probably why it didn't activate LC.

You are right. There is a big difference. The Launch Control on DCT is based on dropping the clutch causing the maximum torque transfer instantly at the time you launce by engaging the clutch/flywheel; however on AT such as ZF8 it's based on engine braking and then releasing the brake and consequently the torque (generated by torque converter) which is already engaged ...
Launch Control will put lots of stress on clutch and that's why 5000+ lb AWD X5M/X6M with 550+ lb-ft torque are not coming with DCT

Not sure launch control will add a thing to x5m performance. With AWD, there is little if any wheel slip. Also, as stated above, the benefit is lost on an automatic (vs dct) transmission. I would say, foot to the floor is a lot easier and just as effective.

Finally got Launch Control to work...WOW, what a rush!!!

I wasn't pressing the accelerator pedal down far enough, which is why it wouldn't activate. I got the hang of it now!

I tend to disagree

The difference is huge in yhe X5M
Almost .5 seconds
So yes, well worth it.
