Does X5M have a weak a/c?

I live in TX - that hasn't changed, I know it gets hot around here. With my 550, M5 and M6, never had a problem with cooling. With My x5m, seems I have the thing set to max for a better part of the afternoon.

Now, I understand that the cabin is larger and the outer surface larger BUT, did BMW accommodate for this? The air coming out of the vents is cool but not cold. It also doesn't blow very 'hard'. The rear vents barely blow at all.

True that?

Agreed. My wife was complaining about it this weekend. Also in Texas. And the seat ventilation stinks too.

Agreed -- although we had the warmest Southern European summer in a while, I share the "weak A/C" deficiency, never experienced in my former 2011 X5 50i.

One difference and probable cause is the unavailability of the option 358 in the new F85 X5 M, the "infrared shielding" windscreen; it's on the option list but it is practically unavailable because of the rear mirror mounted front looking camera supporting the safety features standard (meaning compulsory) on the X5 M sold here.

On sunny summer days I distinctly recall the leather covered dashboard never becoming so hot in the former X5, so the A/C in the new X5 M has a vastly higher thermal load inside the car to work against.

I'm afraid we're stuck with it -- at least, MAX A/C is noisy but cools more than enough.

My A/C seems to work fine, but I agree, the ventilated seats don't help much when it's very hot.

Agree!

In Southern California with temperature sometime reaches over 100+ degree, the AC just simply can not handle this hot climate.

Also the ventilated seats don't help much either.

It's not just the X5M, it's a common problem with the F15 X5's in general. I believe it's either a design or a software tuning issue. I've asked my dealer and they said BMW is aware of this and is working on a fix. Who knows what means.

I am in Florida and it's hot here as well...
The AC on my new 2016 X5M is very good, but ventilated seats as others have mentioned are not that powerful.
As a comparison the ventilated seats on my 2015 911 GTS work a lot better.

HOT In San Antonio, TX

MY 2015 X5M AC is the worst I have seen in a BMW Vehicle. I have driven them for about 30 years now. The best AC is in my 2006 M5. Do anyone know if BMW is aware of this issue? Good Thread.

This may sound stupid, and you all may have done this already, but those who are complaining about the A/C, where do you have the colored thumbwheels on the center dash set? You know, the ones that are red and blue on either side of the hazard button? On extremely hot days, set them to all blue, both of them. Even the slightest movement towards the middle, or the red zone makes a large difference in the interior temperature of the vehicle. These same wheels are available in the rear seating area, too. In the summer, I keep them to all blue, in the winter, I set them to the middle between red and blue.

We don't get quite the extreme of temperatures on cape cod that you all down south get, but we have had a few days in the mid-90s with dew points well above 70, and I've never had an issue getting my X5 M comfy on those days, so long as those thumbwheels are set to "blue."

Today's temperature at LA is 100 plus, some locations reach up to 106 degree and higher.

I move all vents thumbwheels to BLUE in my X6M, the AC still can not cool down the cabin temperature after running 5 mins on the road.

BMW AC system really disappoints me.

Do you leave the rear a/c running, as well? I sync the passenger, and the rear a/c to the driver settings. If I don't leave the rear a/c on, the system struggles to keep the car comfortable, even for just the front area. I'm trying to come up with ideas as to why my system freezes the bejesus out of me, even on a day with near 100 degree temps, and extreme humidity, but so many of you all are having issues. The a/c system in my 2015 X5 M is better than any of our other BMWs.

The ventilated seats in my E70 X5 with multicontour seats were far superior to the piddly little airflow that comes from the fancy seats in my X5 M. The fans were whisper quiet in the E70, too. The ones in the F85 sound like they are going to take off or something.

Not sure if this is the same for you F85 folks, but on my E70 X5M I had to actually go into the climate options. There will be a diagram of the seat with a cold to warm dial on the side. I found setting that to max cold is what changed the AC the most. All the physical buttons did nothing compared to doing it in idrive.

I live in probably the hottest area in LA and my AC is freezing cold, to the point that I need to turn it up to 68 or so. Ventilated seats suck though...

As far as I can see in the F15's climate options only show the ability to change heating.

No issue with my AC.
We had some hot days , over 30° celsius.
I set up de AC on 26° and it's pretty cool.

If I put it at 20° , it freezes !

I noticed the rear ones were off a tick. My kids mess with them. Hopefully this will help. I'm marginally optimistic.

I live in FL. My a/c is very cold. Haven't used cooling seats yet, but car is only 1 week old. Try using manual recycle vs auto. Keeps humidity out.
