2016 GLE 63S vs 2015 BMW X5M

Drove a new x5M with high hopes, love the car and how it looks!

However the experience was a bit of a let down for an M car. The entire car felt like more of a marketing exericise then anything. I almost asking my buddy if it was broken or if I had it in some weird setting. It felt disconnected and sluggish. Not worth the premium over a 5.0 X5 unless you need the badge for your ego. The M3 on the other hand is a totally different car vs a 435. I think the cayenne GTS is the best performance suv right now imo.

I don't know much about the GLE63 but the X5M is pretty cool. And since I've always felt more comfortable in BMWs the Benzs and then throw in the free maintaince of this big complex beast and it would be an easy choice for me on paper.

I agree with you, I don't know much about the GLE 63s but I know it looks to much like the c63 coupe so I prefer the look of the x5m. I have always found the x5m to be an attractive vehicle. Since it seems that Ebolo was erased from the forum I guess there are few people left that like to bash on bmw so it makes them more visible. There is another vehicle I would consider even though not in the same league price wise, it's the jeep srt8. I find it to be an interesting vehicle and think it's also good looking.

Will ignore the Porsche vs BMW debate.

My vote is: neither. Get the E63 AMG wagon. Better than either SUV. Drives better, as much cargo room and now with 4 Matic. Plus it looks a whole lot better than either.

bummer about the nonsense in this thread but the truth really is that test drives are probably the only real way to figure out out. it's hard to know what your/her priorities are but u know some people prefer the less hardcore versions since these clearly aren't track vehicles .. I for one don't honestly cars about lap times for an SUV/SAV/etc. I would go out and drive the offerings from land rover and porsche in addition to these two (as well as the X5 50i and similar models) have fun and good luck!

It's not going to be to everyone's taste but I kind of like the new Q7. I saw it up close on airports around Germany and it looks like a supersized Avant. Like an A8 Avant. It's quite edgy and modern. If they make an SQ7 with the A8's V8 Turbo it could possibly be an interresting option for you though I suspect most Americans will hate on it since Europeans love for Wagons have never really rubbed off over here . I need to drive it and hope it drives well since I'd like the look enough to trade our Cayenne for one in a few years if it feels ok to drive and is great in snow plus have decent light offroad capabilities. Think rutted forest roads to trail heads not Camel Trophy.

i drove both and prefer x5 because its an suv. not to mention its faster and more comfortable. so while ignorance is bliss i'm surprised u bought an m3 not base panamera

OP, I'm a big fan of the F85. It's actually one of my favorite BMW's out for a while. Had a chance to drive it a few times, and the things it does is really mind blowing.

I'm a big fan of them in Melbourne Red with Aragon interior.

Do you drive a X6M? Do you guys both need large heavy SUVs? Why not Porsche Macan Turbo, which will drive much better than these larger SUVs, while being able to do most of the transporting needs as well, with pretty much just as much prestige if that's also important to you.

X5M over the MB and Porsche. No comparison for me, it was a no brainer. I've been a loyal BMW customer for years. My local MB and Porsche dealerships can't even come close to the customer service I get from my BMW dealer. Plus with BMW you get free service for 4 yr/50,000. Win win.

And yes, I, like other X5M owners, can afford a Turbo S. I just wouldn't spend $50,000 more.

I have some experience with Porsche and Porsche performance. And yet I have an order out there on an X5M that should arrive soon. Can't wait. Why not the Cayenne TTS or the GLE AMG? I seriously considered both. For me it boiled down to these points...

- I actually (shocking, I know) prefer the way the X5M looks; I think it looks bad ass from every angle
- The X5M is far far less expensive than the Cayenne Turbo S
- The X5M is either faster than the competition or so close it's a non-factor; if I want to blow the doors off someone, that's what the 911 is for.
- I test drove an X6M and it was hoot
- The Infotainment system in the BMW line blows away the PCM in any shipping Porsche product

coming from a cayenne tubo s 2013, the x5/6 M are superior.
event the new cayenne turbo s can't match the x6m on acceleration
0-200 14, sec flat x6m vers 14,2 sec cayenne turbo S and on track the x6m (nürburgring short track) is 1 second faster..

the brakes on the x6m / x5m are fare superior than the ceramic of the cayenne turbo S with a 100kmh-0 stop distance of 33 meters. That is just a benchmark.

This dates coming from a head to head comparo from sport cars, same day, same condition.

If you don't need offroad capabilities, go for the x5/x6m they are the best at the moment...

Porsches are awesome cars but saying that it drives like crap is just ignorant. That's all I was saying

I noticed you have an F80. I came from a Mineral Grey F80, beautiful car. I believe you're the first person on this planet to think the F85 looks and drives like garbage. I guess all the people taking photos of my DG X5M at cars and coffee because it was the worst looking car on the lot.

FYI, the X5M is $115k loaded and the Cayenne Turbo S is $175k loaded. That's like me saying the M3 looks and drives like shit compared to a $130k GT3 (my dream track car).

The X5M will definitely keep up with the more expensive rival Cayenne Turbo S, if not being just as fast. Your F80 will be left in the dust compared to a GT3, and trust me I got owned on a track by a stock GT3.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't get an X5M to track it. It's larger and more practical than its rivals. Yet, it still performs and looks the best. Cayenne is too curvy and girly looking for my taste, but to each their own.
