X5M (F85) & X6M (F86) Personal Tuner Solution | Velosdesignwerks

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hey Members,

Our Personal Tuner solution for the F85 X5M & F86 X6M platform. This particular solution is completely plug and play and ready to go out of the box. Install is also straight forward and our team is available for technical support. Installed it on our X5M that first week we received it a few months ago as well as a few others to gather more data.

The F85 X5M & F86 X6m boast an amazing maximum output of 575HP at roughly 6200 rpm which is a 4% increase over the previous model. Peak torque is increased by roughly 10% giving this version roughly 70 lb ft of torque over the previous model. While BMW has done an amazing job with the vehicle and not to mention the new 8 speed transmission there was still some power left on the table and our engineering team has spent countless amount of hours in R&D to provide a reliable tune while keeping all safety parameters in tact.

The Velos Personal Tuner will boost your X5M & X6M performance by an impressive 97hp and over 108lb ft of torque. We have done testing in both favorable and unfavorable conditions and bring you the results from the unfavorable conditions exceeding temperatures of 105 degrees Fahrenheit. The Velos Personal Tuner requires no cutting and the simple install can be done in under an hour. Benefits include improved power throughout the entire rpm band, sportier throttle response, smooth power delivery, as well as a slight improvement in MPG. With our preset calibrations the power delivery from 3200 rpm is smooth so traction is still possible with a gradual increase that will unleash your M’s true potential to the 7500 redline, providing you with useful power in an RPM range where the vehicle will spend the majority of its time. Optimized for vehicles using gasoline with an average octane rating of 90-93 peak gains are realized at 5400 rpm.

The Velos Personal Tuner for the F80, F82, and F83 platform is engineered with a multi channel controller that uses RPM based integration which enables our team to provide a refined power curve much higher than that of the factory. With an M our engineers felt it was necessary to maintain the factory like characteristics even when increasing the vehicles HP&TQ output over 15%. All of this is accomplished well within factory safety parameters making this upgrade a must for the enthusiasts looking to maximize their M’s performance without any compromise.

  • +108 TQ
  • + 97 HP
  • Improved Peak Gains
  • More linear power curve
  • 100% Plug and Play (no cutting or splicing)
  • 100% Reversible
  • Include by pass plug

Nice! So is this a breakthrough and a gateway for hand held flashers for the F platform vehicles. Until not it was piggy backs or flash.

Unless I'm really reading their website wrong, this is a piggyback.

Yep I misunderstood. Damn I was hoping that a handheld flash tuner would hit the market for f cars soon, but this is not gonna happen it seems.

Power to 7500rpm? I don't think so...Out of breath (and redline I think) well before 7000.

Remember the power delivery needs to be follow the factory curve to not overwork the turbos. So while the boost does taper off towards redline the throttles also begin to close around this time before the vehicle is ready to shift. So yes there is an increase all the way to redline but the boost has to taper off at some point before the shift.

May policies, I was traveling for SEMA and I am best suited to answer any of these questions. Once again sorry for the delay. I will try to cover all the questions in my reply below but if you have any other questions feel free to call us directly in the office if that is easier for you.

There are different products on the market for these vehicles in the form of "piggy backs" or "Tuning modules". I do not use the term piggy back because over the years a piggy back is typically resistor based and adjust the way the vehicle thinks it is working to get the results we want. i.e. X5 thinks it is at X - 4 psi to force the ECU to get an increase of 4 psi.

I do not want to speak on any of the other brands but I do have experience with Manhart and Dinan and I believe they work similar but I think they are best to respond. Our unit is a communication device of sorts using OE connectors. The programming is specific to vehicle and can be altered depending on modifications (slightly). The Unit is sealed with a tamper proof label and is programmed and shipped within 48hours of receiving an order. The strong point is that it has RPM integration so we have control throughout the rpm band to deliver factory like power at a much higher level opposed to a spike in the beginning and then the vehicle falling on its face.

As with the E70 X5M our goal is to use our vehicle as well as other we work with to create gains where the majority of the time is spent driving. We used testing from our E70 X5M and our new X5M to create boost curves / power curves that will not necessarily throw you back in your seat at 2500 (the vehicle does that on its own) but rather give you a strong "freight train like" pull throughout the rpm band.

Best Regards,

This is so true, I don't drive a X model but an F82 and have been running the Velos tuner for almost a year now and it always puts a smile on my face when I drive my M4, very smooth like factory power delivery throughout the entire power band. These guys got the formula right!

Sounds/Looks like a great product!
Very identical to RaceChip, is it using the same module ?
Nothing wrong if so, since RC is very known (established in Europe) and respected.

Can you post more pics of the module?

Thanks
