Mystery part - help indentify the beasty
2015 X5 35d: This thing was resting on top of the shelf in the center, right behind the radiator, when I went to change oil today.
No engine work history, other than routine oil/dpf/inspections. Freaky! Pen for scale Last edited by Flinch; 07-16-2023 at 07:36 PM.. |

Not good, that is an EGR gasket, inbetween one of 4 spots.
Exhaust manifold to aux EGR Aux EGR to pipe Pipe to primary EGR cooler Primary EGR cooler to intake manifold The dealer may have replaced the gasket but you can look at the 4 connections and look for the tabs. If they were missing a seal, you should be able to smell/see an exhaust leak in the engine bay. |

Ooof! Just remembered that I had the recall EGR replaced by the dealer three months ago! Dang. Probably the old one, but will contact them to make sure. My dealer sucks when it comes to customer service, so I hate to deal with them.
Thanks Edit: Turns out that this is the old EGR cooler gasket - I checked this monring and the new one has a gasket. Again, another reason that I am NOT impressed by my local Reno BMW dealership... When I picked up my X5 after the new EGR, the mechanic's dirty floor mat, steering wheel cover, maintenance tag, and ripped up plastic seat cover were left in the car. When I tried to throw all of it away in their garbage can, they picked it out and tried to give it back to me saying that the trash can was only for 'documents'!
