Yeah the 22"s seem like the perfect fit for the F15 X5.

Thats interesting....which model X5 is that?

On my 35i Msport I have all open ducts in the middle bumper opening where as yours is only open in the middle but closed on the sides where mine feels air to the brakes.

(Not referring to the side vents where we all know only the 35d and the 50i has either one side open)

That's a 35d. Funny you mention this because I thought that one of the sides was supposed to be open as well but clearly it's not.

I'm referring to the area next to your license plate. The corner of the "mouth" is closed on yours but its open on mine like this.... strange bmw has so many different variations for this chassis

Open

closed on yours... (middle license plate area)

I'm struggling to see the difference because of its black on black an there are shadows. Maybe I'm getting old

Is this the section you're referring too?

In Greenville, SC for business trip for a few days the X4 was at the airport. I may take a trip to the factory for a tour if time permits.

No, I'm referring to the opening just left to what you circled. I spotted the difference because i always stick my wheel brush in there to clean that duct when i wash my X5 while yours is completely closed off. Strange why some models would need open ducts to cool off the front brakes while others don't.

Nice. Only biz trip possibility for me would be Columbia. Not terribly far from Spartanburg I suppose.

Assuming (from the fins) that this is a 50i (not a modded 35i or 35d) then I suspect the answer is 'cooling' in just the same way as the lower part of the front grills (below the fins) is open on the 50i. Cooling what? Not sure - doesn't seem that it would be the brakes judging by the alignment of the opening.

Pretty positive its the brakes because when i had my fender liner off i saw that opening turned right into the back side of my wheel/brake area.

Got it. Tough to see on that pic, but I've see it on others. I have no idea, but suspect you're right about cooling something.

It is closed on the Diesel version, but open on the 50i and 35i, not sure on the M50d though.
