TPMS Diagnostic Sharing
Hi All,
Just thought I'd share some interesting issue with my TPMS and how I resolved it. I didn't find anything on the X5 Forums regarding this solution, but it came up in 3 & 4 series forums (not on bimmerpost) so thought I'd share. Symptom: Intermittent TPMS failure light on dashboard / I-Drive and when this happen no Pressures / Temperatures would be displayed. No systematic timing to this happening. Sometimes it would stay on for 3 days, sometimes only 10 mins. Light first appeared after car was left to sit for a month. Initial Steps Taken: Charge Battery Clear Codes Pump Tires Reset TPMS Outcome - Fault Persisted. Secondary Steps Plugged in scan tool, showed fault FL TPMS Sensor. Replaced FL TPMS sensor (No Coding Required to replace TPMS sensor - they are self-learning if genuine BMW sensor is used). Garage told me the batteries were good in all my sensors with their TPMS scanner. Outcome - Fault Resolved for 3-4 weeks before reappearing. |

After 4 weeks.
Symptoms returned and additional ones appeared: Intermittent TPMS failure light on dashboard / I-Drive. Intermittent "Remote Control not Found" when driving. Sometimes tailgate would not lock / open using comfort access Fault Code: FL TMPS sensor Fault reappeared in scan tool. (4806B8, 48069E) Steps Taken: Replaced Key Batteries Replaced Remote Receiver / FBD 3 standalone, located behind trim underneath rear quarter vent next to rear fuse board. Outcome: Fault Resolved (for 1 week so far). Key range appears to have increased. |
