F15 aircon is the worst I have ever had. Hands up, ( or down). It appears that there is simply no cure for it. Ones outside temp hits higher 90's ( like 99-100) it simply takes forever to even begin to cool off. Venza i have as a mulch/ soil getter cools off in seconds and stays as cool as ice.

We have 112F in the forecast for next week, so I'll be able to give a meaningful report as to our 2017 X5 35i.
BMW tests the hell out of these things in the Mojave and other really hot spots. Hard, but possible to imagine they would let something that basic slip through. Last edited by Apple Corps; 06-13-2017 at 10:45 PM.. |

sure, bmw could have put bigger ac components in, turned up the idle a bit, kick on the electric fan. but then fuel economy would suffer. |

I agree that is a possibility - but a loss in customer retention / satisfaction will be a MUCH larger issue to deal with.

Its definitely one the weaker A/C's I've had. I found that using auto is useless. It just makes a lot of noise but none of the vent's have a significant amount of air coming out

Already close to 90F this morning in Texas. Got frozen out again by the A/C, so kept it on the lowest setting. Seems like some of us have great ACs, others not so much. Wonder if there's different suppliers BMW uses and some of us have the "good ones" and other the bad ones?

That would make sense given the disparity of input - some are being frozen out while others report totally inadequate AC performance.
Those of you with poor AC performance should start contacting BMWUSA and raising the issue - possible recall issue. |

My X5 was in for service last week. I have been hesitant to provide specific details as I am still working with them on a resolution. After reading all of the comments in this thread I can tell you, this isn't something as simple as adjusting a setting or turning the dial all the way to blue.
Last week I was told that my system is "functioning as designed", but that BMW is aware of isolated regional issues with the AC performance in the X5. Of course, they also all acknowledged that the AC system in the X5 is the worst of any BMW on the market. They gave some suggestions on how to get more air out up front, but they involve closing rear vents. That isn't something I can do living in AZ with 3 kids under the age of 8. So, I am dropping the car off again today because they have some type of regional technician coming out to look at the car tomorrow to see if there is anything they can do to boost air volume. A review of the parts schematic show that the X5/X6 use the same fan motor. The motor is the X3, X1 and 3 series are older units, but blow much more air. I have done a significant amount of business with my dealership that they have committed to "go to bat for me" and "make things right" if the regional guy can't do anything.

Just a guess here...
It looks like there are 2 versions of AC systems in X5. One is for Hot Climate and other for not hot ones. The X5 I just purchased has 823 Hot Climate Version and my AC was blowing a lot of cold air today when I asked it to. Maybe you car was fitted with the other AC version even if that is not something that is supposed to happen for US market. My car (US version) arrived from the factory with Euro tail lights, even though it was not supposed to |

Interesting. How did you find out that there are 2 different systems?
Edit: Never mind. I just ran the VIN decoder and my X5 has the Hot-climate version (S823)

You should ask your dealer to take out another 2017 X5 out for an extended test drive so you can see if there is any noticeable difference.

also in arizona
I am also in arizona, tucson to be exact. I have a 2017 X5. At first I thought the same thing about the A/C that you did, then I made two changes. I noticed that the default A/C setting was split to where part comes out near your feet, and the other half on the rest of you like you might do when the heat is on. Mess with that setting so that it only comes directly on you. That alone made a huge difference for me. The second thing I did was get my windows tinted, specifically the windshield. I found out that while my windows are dark and look like they were tinted, they were not. The darker windows that come with the car do nothing to block out the heat. While the full tinting cost me around $800, it is worth it. Heat still comes through, not as much, but mostly it allows the car to cool faster. Of course this weekend we will be the true test.

Unfortunately, I don't even use the default setting. I have to run on full Max AC.
I have full tint except for the windshield. While I understand the value of tinting the windshield, an illegal option is not a reasonable solution.

I do not believe it is illegal to tint the windshield. They do it all the time. You would never even know mine is tinted. They have tints now that really dont change the darkness of the window at all. It makes all the difference since the windshield seems to bring in most of the heat. If you were in tucson i would show you mine, but if you ask of any of the tint places in phoenix you will see that it can be done.

According to multiple websites (http://www.tinting-laws.com/arizona/): In Arizona you can use and non-reflective tint as long as it sits above the manufacturer’s AS-1 line. Now what that means in less governmenty terms is you can have a visor strip on the front windshield.

My father also has an X5. We leased them at the same time. They both have terrible AC. Sadly, I don't think it is an isolated issue. It is a design flaw.

The air comes out cold. No denying that. 45 degrees. The problem, as I have said since the beginning, is a matter of volume.

Not sure what else to tell ya. But, with my dealership telling me that they get constant complaints on the X5 being the worst ever I gotta think that it is a known issue.
Especially when BMW has apparently said that it is an "isolated regional issue".
