Finally almost done, I screwed up a bit with decal placement, but that's ok. Applied clear coat and just waiting for F85 rotors to arrive

Looking really good! Were you able to test the caliper functionally somehow? Just curious if there is anyway to test functionality prior to fully installing them.

I pressed on each piston separately using my thumb to see if it moves freely and they were moving with no issues - each time I pressed on one piston - brake fluid would come out of hose. These are very reliable brakes, unless someone took pistons apart and scratched their surface from inside on purpose - or someone just drilled a hole into caliper or something - there's no other way to brake them. Very simple and effective construction. They are built like tank - you can feel quality in your hand

I hate to be that guy but I'm going to be that guy... So my summer wheels are part numbers 86053 & 86058. My winter wheels are part number 86260. I have 5mm spacers in the front and 15mm spacers in the rear. Would I be able to run this setup year round? I would also pursue the rear calipers.

Ironic, but it's usually unproportionally small rotors and calipers that people have, but in this case 19 inch rims look too small for such caliper and rotors - or is it that calipers are too big for 19 inch P.S. I'm in the process of installing soon and I'll update with pics (got held back with study) Last edited by DuSh; 02-19-2018 at 12:18 PM.. |

Did you code the M performance brakes on the car after install? Also any clue if this same process could be used for rear calipers or are the rears we have the 50i good enough as is?

Rear brakes for 50i are same as MPBK, but they need to be re-mounted on another mounting points and bigger rotors can be installed in rear. The bracket has 2 sets of mounting points - for bigger rotors you can use mounting points that are farther from the hub to accommodate bigger rotor. I still have to confirm this info, but in worst case scenario if caliper brackets are different - we can buy X5M bracket (for rear calipers): $147 https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...r/34217847226/ and you can use your stock 50i rear caliper with that X5M bracket (so basically swap brackets) and that will allow you to accommodate bigger 385mm rotor from X5M (our stock rear rotor for 50i is 345mm) - so that's one way to do it - calipers are identical (except color, but you can paint them any color). But in that case you will need to buy 385mm rotors for rear and cost will add up. In that case maybe it makes sense to just buy MPBK kit for $2500 that has everything, but you will still need to buy drilled rotors for looks (or stay with solid rotors if looks are not priority) Last edited by DuSh; 02-20-2018 at 05:27 AM.. |

One more quick fact: it turns out total weight of F85 rotor with X5M E70 4 piston caliper is basically same as stock 50i rotor with stock caliper. What it means is that I got bigger 395mm rotor and 4 piston brembo caliper WITHOUT gaining any extra weight! Probably due to aluminum body (M brembo caliper) vs cast iron body (stock caliper). So if anyone is worried that it may increase rotational mass - it's all good
