X5 Winter Tires/Rims - Am I doing this right?

Hey All,
I need to get some winter rims/tires for my X5. Here is what I'm thinking of getting. Am I missing anything? Will these fit OK? Other suggestions?

Misread it at first. for winters you should be getting 20x9 at minimum, preferably 20x10 wheels with 275/40/20 or 285/40/20. those tires are all terrains made for a jeep or pickup truck, not an x5. if you want all season, look at continental dws. for winters-

-i have an x5m but i would think on a 50 u can use 19" winter wheels, which would be cheaper and u can get smaller tires as well. you can build a winter wheel package on tire rack. just plug in your car and it will give options.

You got the TPMS right - tons of people on the forum bought them from Ben w/o any issues or errors, myself included. There's lot of them on eBay that claim to not throw errors but I wouldn't trust most of them - go w/ RG Sport.

I agree with SakM_5 - those tires you linked to are all terrain tires - unless you live in rural backcountry on dirt/mud roads, you don't need those. I run the Michelin Alpin PA4 winter performance tire, and they're awesome. There's actually a set FS on this forum, brand new -

For wheels, a lot of people will recommend an OEM 19" wheel. I run an OEM 20" in winter with the above tires, but a narrower 19" might be better? I already had the 20's so I went that route, and they look better than 19's IMO.

If you want to keep costs down, a OEM 19" will be less $ than an OEM 20". Try finding a set of OEM 467's, they're generally pretty cheap as there's not much demand for them. There's usually a few sets for sale here... like these below. And these are nice (aside from some curb rash) as they don't have tires so you can choose exactly what you want.

Tpms are def the ones I sent you. Are you trying to go off roading or looking for winter tires lol? I’ve never seen those type of tires on an x5 period.

I’m sorry, I’ve never seen a f15,f16, f85 or f86 without rdc sensors but instead the old Skool orange sensors.

they were used off road (dirt/mud) DOES NOT equate to winter tires !

Blizzak or Hankook winter tires, I've had great luck with both.

Big lugs are not the answer for winter road driving, it's all about the siping !!

Thanks for all of the replies and help. I did end up going with the General AT3. I know that all terrain does not equal snow/winter tire, but was comfortable given some of the ratings the tires have and articles like this below.

Also, I do a lot of hiking, fishing, and backcountry skiing. All of these activities often result in trips down unpaved roads. I feel much better with an all terrain tire in these situations.

Any clearance issues? Full lock to full lock? Just watch when your suspension is under compression. Everything clearances different as that happens.

Looks good with the AT3's, albeit it an acquired taste for some. I appreciate the practicality.

No clearance issues at all. It's not much different that what I took off. I think lots on here run taller/wider with their 22" rims

Looks pretty good. I was at a dealer a month ago and they had a brand new 2020 with AT tires as part of some package (forgot what they called it), which I was surprised to see. Doesn't look as nice as your set-up, but maybe its the black decals on the door panels...

Hey everyone. I'm in the process of buying new winter tires. I have a 35D with stock tire size of 275/40/R20 front, 315/40/R20 rear. But a colleague of mine has (3) 275/40/R20 he will give me for free. (the 4th had a flat). My question is if I can do a square setup of 275/40/R20 safely on my rears.

From my searches, everyone recommends against it. I called the local tire shop here and they said it is not a problem, so I have conflicting information.

Is it safe/viable to run a square 275/40/R20 setup or should I rule that out and do another staggered setup? thanks

Who recommends against it!? That is ridiculous.
It is actually better to run a square setup in winter. BMW sells 275/40R20 square winter sets for the F15 X5 too. Take the tires and enjoy. Just don't mount them on existing rear rims that are sized for 315s.

I think you misunderstood my question.

I agree running a squared setup is ideal. But my concern and those recommendations are NOT to run a squared setup on my staggered OEM rims. and that the 275/40/R20 is too thin for the OEM 11" wide rear rim. or has anyone run a 275/40/R20 on front and rear 469M rims?

anyways, I'm trying to source out a decent set of 20"x10" rims so save the hassle, but I can't find anything I actually like and the one I did, doesn't seem to be in stock or maybe discontinued...

You're right I did misunderstand.
Running 275s on the 11" rim is indeed a bad idea, although I've seen it done, it is too stretched.

I picked up a set of Replika R184 20"x10 rims to run my 275 square winter setup.
Canadian company (Fast wheels) with good warranty. Sold through many tire shops. Set was under $1,000 CAD new.

My winter set are 469m's and I am running 275/40/20 Michelin snow tires on them. They're fine but they look stretched in the rear. I done many trips from SF to Tahoe with them

Thanks everyone. I just ordered a set of style 597 Replicas through...Amazon..??? (i've never bought wheels through Amazon before, but they're 20x9.5 fronts and 20x10.5 rears, so I'm hoping my 275/40/R20's are gonna fit on all four rims.
