Accident Damage

Hi All,

Greetings. I am new to this forum and seeking some insight into issue of X5 repair. I was involved in a accident where someone hit me from the side (T-boned me). Thankfully no one was hurt but my car had to be towed away as the right front tyre was impinging against the crushed in bumper. Also, the from passenger is not moving at all..it appears as if the hinge was broken. No airbags were deployed however.

My car is now with a body shop of my insurer preference but I am told that assessment cannot take place for days due to people being off over Christmas. I have to leave the country in a week and I am anxious as to whether the damage is repairable.

I am attaching pictures and will appreciate any thoughts on whether the damage is repairable. I will appreciate any input. My BMW is 2015 model with 48K on it.

Thanks

Unfortunately, that is repairable. It looks like no frame damage plus no air bags. Looks like fender, headlight, front bumper, inner fender lining, fog lamp, new wheels and some internal parts I can't see.

You would be amazed at what it would take for them to total it. The newer and more expensive the car the more it will take.

I was in the body shop where a customer was pissed as he rolled his new RS7 and they where not gonna total it.

Crazy!

Looks like most of the damage was taken from the front right/passenger side bumper, and your leaking antifreeze (some drips and puddling going on there), so radiator and radiator support is probally damaged also too. Though it dosen't look too damaged to be totaled but it's gonna be high $10k-$15k to get that repaired.

Yeah they use some calculation that saves them the most money I am sure lol

Take Liberty Mutual. They agree to give you MSRP if your car is totaled in the 1st year or 15K miles with their "New Car Replacement" coverage. I'm sure that just means they won't total it unless the car was crushed in a car crusher!

Yeah, repairable. I totaled my 14 in April of 18 and this was 20k in damage.

Good time to get upgraded headlights. Pay the difference from OE that you have to the LeD ones.

That is my expectation as well.

OP, sorry to read about the accident and wish you luck with the repairs.

Sorry to read about. Too bad you have to go on trip. I'd stay VERY involved in the process if I were you. You say "insurer preference" - is there a better place for the work to be done? Make sure every last part is OEM.

Most insurers will total if cost reaches 80% of vehicle value. So let's do some back of envelope - your car is five years old, low miles. Don't know all your options, but let's say 45% of original MSRP. Call it around 31K.

80% of that is $24,800. Agree that this damage is probably repairable but the numbers might come pretty close. GL and make sure you're happy with the result.

Thanks all for your advise and input. The other person’s insurance (Farm Bureau) called it Total Loss but my insurance (Progressive) deemed it repairable, this going with latter option. The auto body shop are saying that the repair will have a “Life time warranty.” Wish you all a Merry Christmas!!

Lol. Why would they say a total loss? That insurance is stupid. It is repairable UNLESS it twisted your frame, which I doubt.

The body shop will push for repair because it's work for them. I'd take the insurance payout if they are offering.

Agreed, only if you had put a ton of money on mods, it'd be better to keep.
You can get a very well equipped one for 30K, or under.

No, I don’t think it’s too late. Call the shop and leave a message, also contact the agent and let them know you’ve decided to accept the total loss.

Accident happened on Thursday, Dec 19th. Other driver’s insurance called it a total loss. My insurance adjuster inspected Monday and called me this afternoon to recommend repair. We were not sure what to do and went with my insurance agent’s recommendation of repair.
