Pls help me decide on wheel style?
Thanx to everyone for answering all my silly and stupid questions. I am a little more educated now on the X5. I have decided to go with 19" wheels based on my needs.
I can't decide between Style 490 (star spoke) and Style 450 (V spoke). Perhaps I can get your input to see what works or looks better with a Space Grey X5 X30d. Thank you all. |

Personally, if those are your only two options, I would go with the 490 mainly because it has a bit of inner gunmetal like the 449, which works very well with Space Grey. Here's a good comparison for your eyes if you absolutely must choose between the 490 and 450: 490: 450:

As Senior @opasha mentioned the star spoke looks way better and make the rims look bigger somehow. This V spoke looks horrendous

Also, mind you, the pics below I used were on top of atomic80's 20" set, so I did my best to reduce the tire/wheel size as best as I could to make it flush without appearing to look too big, but they still are .5" larger than what you see. Visit the thread I posted above for the most accurate visuals.

You are correct. The car looks great with the 449s. It definitely looks better than both V and Star spokes. The picture says it all!!! I am going with the 449s.
thank you. |

When I got my X5 3 years ago I was told that it could not have the 20" wheels that I wanted (probably all those quality issues). Therefore, it came with the stock 19" M Sport wheels. It has been the one thing that has annoyed me in the whole 3 years about the look of the car - 20" wheels look so much better and even if it means a compromise - I think it is worth it. 19" was too small for the E70, I saw a SE F15 with 19" and my opinion has not changed. I know I did not answer your question, but just my 10 cents.

Was getting ready to order my winter wheels yesterday when I learned a bit of bad news. The 449 wheels are back ordered in Germany with no supply in the US (according to my local dealer). My dealer is getting a time estimate today, but is thinking at least 2 months.
Opasha, (and others) for a Space Grey M-Sport, if it's between the 467m wheel and the 490, what do you think will look best? Any pics out there with Space Grey and the 490 in M-Sport? It seems there is a very limited number of 490 pics on the internet. For a winter wheel set up, doesn't the painted finish look much worse when dirty from winter conditions ie sand and salt grime? That's what I have been told. Last edited by SUV55; 11-04-2014 at 05:30 AM.. |

As far as grime is concerned, I have no clue, but in all honesty, you can always clean them without issue and polish them. If anything, at the end of the day, you can also powdercoat them to a full gunmetal finish to match your body and add glossifier the same way @sand99 did on his 467m wheels for his black sapphire x5 m-sport.

Hmm...not bad. Thanks!
Opasha, are you aware that the 467m comes in a staggered kit 19x10 rear 19x9 front? Doesn't the factory M-Sport come with 19x9 on all 4? If BMW bothered to make a staggered 19 wheel set, surprised the M-Sport doesn't ship with it. If I decided to order the 467m for winter wheels, I should stick with 19x9 on all four wheels, correct? I am not even sure a 255/50R19 snow tire would fit on the rear wheels? |

Yes, I would recommend going non-staggered for a snow setup. You want the most accurate steering in snow without having to compensate for the understeer of a staggered setup. It won't make a world of difference or anything, but a few members have discussed about how a staggered setup does not give as good traction as a non-staggered in snow. FWIW, my 22s are a non-staggered setup (22x10), and they have been handling phenomenally in all conditions so far - I have not tested in snow yet. FYI, the 449 also comes in 19x9 with 250/55R19 on all four. You're very welcome .

EDIT: Judging by what the realoem QUANTITY chart shows, the 467M is also available in 19x9 for all 4 if you so choose.

I think the link shows a 467m winter wheel kit available wheels/tires/and tpms.
My X5 may be available for pick up next week. It has 20 summer tires on it. I plan on switching the RFs for Conti DWS in the spring. I could swap the 20s out now, which will buy me time. Then wait for the 449 or the 490 wheel to be available. Hmmm. Last edited by SUV55; 11-04-2014 at 10:33 AM.. |

The 490 is not available yet in the US with no release date. In Germany they are back ordered.
Anyone hear differently? Too bad, the 490 was really growing on me. Is this a very new wheel that has not made it to the US yet? Looks like I am being forced into the 467M wheel. Last edited by SUV55; 11-04-2014 at 09:01 AM.. |
