Ability to fast forward / rewind media via iDrive / steering wheel?

Am I missing something here, is this possible?

On my E70 and E71, if I held down the button that you click once to skip tracks, it would FF. It worked on my iPhone and CDs. Did you try that?

Had an E70 also but on the F15 it is a wheel. I assume you can do it on the main dashboard unit but not from the steering wheel.

If you press and hold down the scroll wheel on the rhs of the steering wheel the track list, radio stations are displayed either in HUD, if you have this option, or in dash. You can then scroll and select as needed.

He wants to rewind or fast forward within a track, not switch tracks.

OP, there's no way I know of doing this on the steering wheel. Only way to do it is by the arrow buttons near the programmable buttons on the dash.

This. Very annoyed by not being able to fast-rewind from the steering wheel. Even more annoyed that most (?) car manufacturers don't even think about stuff like picking an exact spot to fast rewind to - i.e. you have a track that lasts for 2 hours and you want to pick the moment @ 0:48 - rewinding it the usual way takes a loooong, loooong time and eventually because of the rewind speed increasing gradually, you just miss the wanted spot and have to rewind back

Just take any State of Trance compilations or something similar I just CBA any more to do additional manual labor and split this via .cue file (if present) to independent MP3s.

Thanks for the posts guys. Definitely a pain to have to reach down and do this via the dash...an oversight by BMW I think. This being my first BMW, I'm finding there is a lot of inconsistency between MY's and the series'.
