I have Michael design + aluminum. I personally like the sorry look of aluminum. Next to the piano black stripe on the dash and around the aluminum trim on the iDrive surround and the light stitching on the dash, it pops.

This is a personal choice though.

I ordered the Terra (Brown) Dakota leather w/ Fineline Pure wood. I can't wait to see what it looks like in person. When I did the online build it looked like the best combo IMO, without going to the more expensive mocha.

The pics above for the pure wood don't work for me. Does anyone have real photos of the Terra Dakota/Fineline Purewood combo? Really anxious to see it.

I'm personally not a fan of wood grain interiors, just my personal preference. My A4 has the Titanium package, which is an all black interior with gloss black trim...looks great! As for my M Sport, I've got the black Dakota package with aluminum hexagon. Looks pretty good, but if I had my choice, I'd prefer all black or carbon fiber.

I have Mocha Dakota with Fineline Pure. The matt finish of the wood means it's really contemporary. So pleased I chose it - it's a great look.

Is the fineline pure wood ridged or smooth? I thought that I've seen photos that look like its ridged and those where it doesn't.

I've been in a Tesla that had smooth matte wood trim and it was cool. I think I'd like that. I'd hesitate if it were ridged.

You can get Piano Black as a BMW Individual extra. Or at least you can in the UK. It costs £790

I ordered the same option Fineline Pure Wood trim together with Black Dakota leather. If ventilated seats was available with Terra Dakota leather, then that would have been my choice. I did not go with Mocha Nappa leather package, to use fund for other technology options like LED headlights, ACC, and night vision.

I went to my local dealer last week to make this exact choice. I had wanted the Pure Wood, but after touching it, looking at it, and tapping it, I really thought it seemed like plastic (I know it is real wood but it doesn't seem like it). So I'm going American Oak. Looks great, classy and guaranteed to last well.

I agree with you. It does feel very hard. But I think if BMW didn't harden the wood, it would be too soft and would dent easily.

I thought I had wanted the pure wood as well as my A6 has the matte pure wood trim. But in the A6 it has the natural grains and just the right amount of texture, whereas on the X5 it has too many ridges. I for one feel that the pure wood in the X5 will be very prone to scratches, especially if keeping the vehicle for some time. So I have decided to pass on the X5 pure wood trim for this reason.

I have a lot of concerns regarding Fineline Pure Wood trim quality , I meanI can see tiny cracks in brand new car , horizontal cracks of the wood , and I have compared brand new car in dealer house and it had same cracks around all trims (doors and especialy front trim below CID Scrren , can you guys check your and let me know my car is just 3 months old and I am just observing it if those cracks will became bigger I am going to claim it for sure.

Every car and everyone has shiny wood (no pun intended). It is a really special finish, but it is not for everyone. I love it.

These photos are from the car I returned (don't ask), while shooing pics for a USB music project so they don't show it as well. I have ordered the same package for '15 coming soon: fineline with mocha napa design

That looks sooooooo comfy for some reason, I bet it's that color combination along with those super nice seats.

Does anyone have Aluminum trim on their X5? I am considering that with black leather, but will that make the interior look too busy?

It is very comfy and warm with the brown hues. Also, the additional stitching on the comfort seats holds the leather better than the ventilated ones. Give and take: more cushion, better leather wear, but no ventilation. Supposedly '15 fixes the wear issue with the ventilated seats with a revised stitching pattern.

I think fineline works with all the colors, possibly less with black.

Since I am definitely going with black (3 year old kid-proof) I looked at Fineline Oak Wood trim and Brushed Aluminum. While I like poplar trim, it just makes the BMW look too much like a Benz for some reason, not that there is anything wrong with that.

Does anybody know if aluminum trim is cool to the touch (real brushed metal) or is just like the faux wood behind a plastic casing?

Mocha napa is good with kids....two in this house....very sloppy and careless I might add. Beware of sunblock. Once it gets on black it is a pain to remove. Your carpets are black and the dash leather is still black on the design package.

agree that shiny looks very benz, and like all other cars in my view. I like the alu/black look as well.

Word of caution: if you have sat on the comfort seats once, you will never want anything else.
