Any reliability issues or quirks with your X5M ownership thus far?
Considering picking up an X5M to replace my 2013 S4 used as a daily. I have enjoyed the stellar reliability of the s4 over the past 2 years (not 1 dealer visit outside of maintenance, over 30k miles put on) - Now that the new X5m has been out for a year or so (?) any issues / quirks / reliability concerns anybody has ran into to? Are the fuel pumps still an issue with BMW or has that been resolved?
Last BMW I owned was an e92 335i, loved it to death but could not keep it out of the shop for longer than 2 months at a time (fuel pumps, injectors, miscellaneous electrical issues galore). Please share any feedback or anything to watch out! |

X5 M, after some 8 months and 10.000 km, fairly hard driving on Autobahns, etc: nothing, nada, no measurable oil consumption, not even a minor mechanical or electronic hiccup, just a couple loose hex screws fastening some fibrous mats under the car.

4 months 6k miles. No issues aside from steering wheel rubbing and squeaky brakes.

I've had my X5 M since May of this year, and have put on close to 8k miles with no major issues. I had the initial BMW Apps fiasco, like most others, plus a minor squeak/rattle issue I located, and fixed. The only ongoing "problem" is the brake squealing issue, which seems to be more of a common nuisance, than an actual problem.

Great to hear some reaffirmation as most issues typically creep up over the few initial miles!
Re: brake issue typically first thing I do on every german car I had is change out brake pads as that squeal has plagued every car I have had in the past few years. |

Can't speak much to the reliability factor: 1-month in @1500 miles and totally problem free thus far (besides what others have called "brake squeal" which sounds *normal* to me compared to all other performance German cars I've owned).
I can however provide you insights from a previous Audi-loyalist and S4 ('12 and '13) and SQ5 ('14) owner. Coming from an SQ5, the leap in luxury and quality is analogous to moving from an S4 -> S6. For you, coming from an S4, it may take some getting used to regarding the general dynamics of a larger vehicle (longer, taller, heavier), where you sit higher in the cockpit. For me, there was "learning curve" regarding driving techniques going from the S4 -> SQ5, for example - a loose comparison since the SQ5 is still ~800 lbs lighter than the X5M. Having said that - the transition from the SQ -> X5 was night and day. Even with the car being nearly 1k lbs heavier, the driving dynamics of the vehicle are totally on point - the X5 just feels so much more balanced and easier to drive. In fact, it reminded me more of driving an S4 (in that it feels closer to driving a sports sedan than a large SUV). If you have the Sports Diff in your current S4 you'll totally appreciate the driving dynamics of the X5. It really just *wants* you to take it in to a corner hard-and-fast. Slightly off-topic from your original (?) but thought I would throw-in my .02 as a previous Audi owner.

Bought mine in March 2015, first one in Monmouth County, NJ. Currently have 13,000 miles with ZERO ISSUES! Only thing I would say is that as I get close to my oil change which I do every 7,500 miles it's asking for a quart of oil. Never had a sports car of mine ever ask for a quart! I've owned every brand, so I find it weird. Really loving it, but thinking of selling to go to a 991 Turbo S. I'll keep you all posted.

I'm looking for something bigger then the S4 now that also sits higher, so X5 or X5M are in the consideration. How would you say cruising dynamics over long distances / freeway compare to the S4? (Aside from the obvious advantages such as extra room). Does it feel like the car eats up the miles better or worse? Quieter / less wind noise on the freeway? The s4 is good on the freeway but not great. |

The only issue with this car is that I want to drive it too damn much!

I have some concerns about the steering sensation at highway speeds and the floating off center feel...dealer thinks its the active steering. Other than that it is a dream to drive. I have the Dinan tune so mine is putting out 702 horsepower! SWEET

7 months and no issues whatsoever to report - I don't baby her and still no need to add oil either. Rock solid so far, knock on wood!
FYI - I've owned countless BMW's, both 6 cyl and 8 cyl models. They almost all needed oil added at some point between scheduled service visits. It is perfectly normal, I believe based on driving style too. My wife's 2015 X5 5.0 asked for it several times so far. I drive aggressively, but she must be off the charts. I made sure to get the best child seat for our 6 month old - haha!

Came from previous Audi S4's myself - 2001 B5 S4, 2012 B8 S4, a 2007 V8 S-line Q7, and previous BMW 2011 X5 ///M and 2015 328 D M-Sport Wagon.
No issues here with my '16 X5 ///M and it's the best all round vehicle I have ever owned. No regrets, and great power, with excellent highway fuel economy vs previous gen X5 /// M. Good luck and enjoy

Coming from a few bimmers, this one is by far my favorite, the acceleration and handling is very smooth, interior quality is similar to all M models, I was hesitating to get this one since my old 2008 X5 was a shop magnet, I never worried about the mechanical side of bimmers, its the electrical usually worries me, so far so good.

It came with asymmetrical tread tires. Changed to a symmetrical tread after 700 miles and it fixed the problem . Before with the cruise set at 75mph I had to keep making slight steering corrections to keep it centered. Not needed now. |
