Squeaks going over bumps
Had my car in for service at the dealer due to squeaks coming from front Right and left wheels, specifically when going over bumps. Was thinking it was control arms/cracked bushing but after shop inspection, they state everything is fine with suspension and it’s most likely coming from the brakes. How?! I don’t know... brake pads still have >50% pad life. Warranty expires this month and I was hoping for a fix.

I've had the same squeak for over a year before I traded car in took it to 2 dealers and a reputable indy where everything checked out fine and was told its coming from the pads and its normal. I would get a high pitched squeak whenever I go over a bump and especially when I go over sewer covers at speeds of 15+ mph but if I go over them while pressing the brakes the squeak is very minimal or not there at all. As annoying as it was driving with it for over a year there weren't any other issues I was curious if changing pads would fix it for sure but it never got to that as I didn't have the car for long.

As 201 mentioned, squeaks are from the outside/wheel area and occur when going over sharp dips/bumps. Dealer said it could be the seating of the brake pads. Will try and add some anti seize next time I have the wheels off or just do a full brake job. Now the fun part.. bring the car in for one thing.. have the vent trim cracked on the way out... main reason why I ask dealer to not clean my car inside/out. I pointed out the scratches to the mechanic, he agreed that he did them, he didn't even offer me a penny off for the services. I even asked him if i brought in another set of tips that i have if he would install them and he looked at me like i had 2 heads on my shoulders. Very annoying honestly, I've been having nothing but bad luck everywhere i bring my car lately.

Me: if I was to damage anything in the loaner vehicle, would I be responsible for it? Manager: yes Me: so why doesn’t it work the other way around, you guys damage my vehicle and expect to get away with it. He was speechless.. said they can offer a discount on the part and cover the installation, but would not be able to fix it for free.. Will be contacting his higher up on Monday... |

With my previous car the infiniti service cracked my front grill. They reviewed lot camera and couldn’t find at what point they damaged it, Atleast there they covered their mistake and fixed it. |

I have some kind of front end squeak when going over certain speedbumps too.
Had the dealer change out some bushings that they said were wore down at around 50k miles, but it made no difference. Dealer can't find anything else wrong? Only time I ever hear it, is on aggressive/short speedbumps. I'm lowered on stiffer springs, and I'm thinking the weight of the vehicle, going over a speedbump too fast, causes some bushings to squeak when whatever is held by the bushings move "faster" than normally. I have been considering dropping a mic down and drive over speedbumps, move mic around until I hear where it's coming from. But I don't have the time. If it was something I felt could be dangerous, I would make the time, but for now I just ask the mechanic to check the front end whenever I'm in for service. |

Yea same here, as if it's audible on the recoil of the strut. I changed my brakes will drive around with windows down tomorrow hopefully and I'll confirm if the new pads solved it as per the experts at BMW service..

I really hope that does the trick. Did you apply any anti seize on the pads?

Had the same high pitched squeak and anti seize did nothing but it definitely seems to be a pad issue as dealer replaced pads and resurfaced rotors noise was non existent for 7-8k miles then it came back

from my experience it was coming from just the front so order pads from FCP and replace them whenever they start squeaking problem solved

Have to see how much more expensive the Zimmerman rotors/pad combo when purchased separately. Last edited by NYC_X5; 06-13-2020 at 05:31 PM.. |

I can confirm squeak from front end is completely gone, so it was the seating of the pads. 2 issues were solved for me from the looks of things: 1 Being the squeak 2 being a slight vibration from the front at around 65-75mph. This was happening on 2 sets of wheels/tires, theory was rust build up on the sides and backside of rotor, appears that was the case as well. In terms of the Zimmermann/Akebono setup, so far I'm liking the combo, slightly less bite compared to OEM, with others on the forum stating the dust is significantly reduced with this combo, I'm all for it. Time will tell after brake in but I'd recommend them.
