2018 Mustang GT is as fast as an M3/4 in a straight line for $35k
What do you guys think? Bargain American muscle though maybe not as good around a track. Apparently it does handle better than a Camaro though. Still would look cooler behind the wheel of an M3.

I think the GT350 is awesome... regular GT just doesn't look the part.
Straight line is one thing, I'm more interested in a track beast. I also ran a new Mustang GT... past 100, the M3 pulls away - The mustang doesn't have power in the high rpm range. In Mexico of course.

The gt is a performance bargain. The camaro ss is a performance bargain. The m4 is twice the price and not much if any better.

Can you really get them for $35k though? The ones I'm seeing around here are $42-45k which is just hilarious for a Mustang GT (though not surprising with how grossly overpriced cars are now). I guess the $35k versions are the complete strippers?

I'm basing it on the Ford website for the cheapest model with the V8. The dealers may not have them at that starting price you would have to haggle as they get them with option packages attached but if you search hard enough they may have a stripper in the back lot somewhere or one with just a few options that they can let go for below retail. With an NA V8 with 460 horsepower it is a bargain. Amazing performance for a base model GT with 5 liter V8 and ten speed auto, though maybe for $35k it's the manual, though some prefer that. 0-60 in 3.9 does require the performance pack so that would cost more as well, and you have to launch it a particular way and use 93 octane.

lol you guys keep dismissing the muscle cars as poor handling cars that will fall behind on a track.. the truth is not only have they caught up but arguably build better handling cars for half the price
save for some of the refinement the only reason you'll buy the M4 is for the name/status |

If it handles better than a camaro, you are basically saying that the PP2 beats a GT350, since the SS 1LE beats the GT350 around a track. I don't think ford made it that hot.

Wrap your noggins around this: hint the FBO M3 loses to stock mustang GT on a track. The 18 will be even more competent

Nonetheless, nowhere in this thread is anyone questioning modern muscle cars and their performance capabilities on high speed turns. The thread topic is simply about a straight line comparison between two completely different cars. For starters: I6 vs V8, Luxury Sports vs Sports, Sedan (M3) vs Coupe. Neither side need to be defensive about anything as both M3 and Mustang serve two completely different demographics. |

And they're absolutely right. Both Ferrari and Lamborghini cater to more millionaires and billionaires than the Nissan GT-R does by itself.
The only GT-R that would be considered in the same class as exotic cars would be a heavily modified one. In this case, only the GT-R owner would care to know that his/her car is faster than a certain exotic car model, and never the other way around. I seriously doubt many F80/F82 owners care that a Mustang, or even a Hellcat can go faster in a straight line. |
