Wish I had considered these three months ago when I ordered the winter tires and wheels package style 611 m.
I spent a lot here in Germany for the 20" wheels and Pirellis. I feel like I had searched the forum at that time and everyone was recommending the 20" package. Glad to know there are finally more options for the 21s. |

I had the 20" last year. I was content with them but didn't love the way it looked because of the proportions of the vehicle. I've had 21" winter wheels and tires on other SUV and have not had any complaints so I am hoping for similar if not better results this year.

From what I'm reading on this forum, the Pirelli is not worth the extra $$ unless you want runflat set up. Is that accurate to say?

Most of my driving is around the city, I can't imagine getting more than a few days of snow in NYC again. I had DWS06 all seasons on my previous X6 and they sucked in the snow.

Returned this evening from a 700+ mile road trip. Went through temperatures of 50 degrees to single digits. Drove through rain, snow and ice. Drove on paved roads and off-road. A Range Rover this vehicle is not however the Yokohama BlueEarth Winter/Snow tires make you think it is as capable as well. Last year's winter set up was an oem set of 20" wheels with the Michelin Scorpion Winter/Snow RFT. The Yokohama B/E in 21" performed better and are more comfortable than the Michelin one size down. I do not have any complaints at this point and will update further into the season when we see negative temperatures with real accumulation.

I can't find any where the BlueEarth 21-size in staggered setup. Called Yokohama and they have the older version- the w-drive-v905. Essentially the same tires.

Yeah, I ordered staggered 21s Yokohama W-drive V905 for $1,387.82 including everything -taxes, shipping and installation. BluEarth V905 fronts are sold out nationwide and only rears are available, until next year.
Not much difference between W-drive V905 and BluEarth V905. BluEarth is the newer more fuel efficient version of W-drive. They look exactly the same - tread pattern and all. The rubber compound is different. "Yokohama Rubber Launches “BluEarth*WINTER V905” New Winter Tire for Passenger Cars and SUVs in Europe Tokyo—The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., announced today that it will launch sales in Europe of a new winter tire for passenger cars and SUVs from this autumn. The “BluEarth*WINTER V905” will be available in 119 sizes, ranging from 295/30R22 103V to 195/80R15 96T. To meet Europe’s increasingly stringent environmental regulations, Yokohama Rubber developed the “BluEarth*WINTER V905” as the first YOKOHAMA-brand winter tire to use the advanced technologies for which the Company’s fuel-efficient “BluEarth” tires have become renowned. “BluEarth*WINTER V905” is based on YOKOHAMA’s existing “W*drive V905” winter tire, which has been highly evaluated by ADAC Motorwelt, the official publication of Germany’s Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club (ADAC, the General German Automobile Club). The application of the “BluEarth” series’ basic design and materials technology to the existing “W*drive V905” has resulted in a new winter tire with superior stability and performance on ice, snow, and in wet and dry conditions, while also delivering superb fuel efficiency." This has happened every year so far. Once the supplies are gone nothing new until they begin production again in late January and they begin with the most popular fitments first so if history repeats itself again don't expect the tires to ship to the distributors until late February.
The other option is purchase a used set which isn't always the best way to go or buy a set of 20" wheels and your options open up for the tires or purchase a complete winter set through BMW.

I went with a set of these for my X6M with 20" rims - 315/35R20 rear and 275/40R20 front. They seem to perform great in snow, but what troubles me is that tirerack now says they are no longer available in 275/40/20, so if I need to replace front tire, I'm screwed.

After having a few snow days here in CO now I can attest that these are the best snow tires I've driven on, they also seem to perform better than the pirelli scorpions during dry conditions and seem to handle better.

Indeed they do however it is not a fair comparison since the competition is a RFT and these are not. I believe that is the major difference in the dry and at highway speed the second is how many additional grooves and treads the BlueEarth have over the Michelin.

Like I have always said. I LOVE these tires. DON'T settle for the 20s. Get the 21s. Amazing ride/traction and look great.
