New Member Intro
Hello everyone! Just took delivery of my 2018 X5M about a month ago. It's replacing a 2014 Jaguar XFR-S as my daily driver, so there is a bit of an adjustment! I'm not a big SUV fan, but I live in a rural area that gets plenty of snow. I've had X5's in the past (2008 4.8L and 2012 4.4L) and the realities of winter driving and unreliable road clearing in my area steered me back in the SUV direction.
So far I am impressed with this SUV. I expected plenty of power and torque, but I am pleasantly surprised by the amount of mechanical grip, even though I've read all the test numbers. The build quality, especially inside, is definitely a cut above any BMW I've ever owned. The Merino leather is very high quality, and the drive is very refined and quiet when you just want to cruise, which is a great attribute for a daily driver. The only disappointment is the electric steering, which is awful, though not quite as dismal as in my wife's m240xi. I just can't get used to the total lack of feedback, especially around the centre position, although it looks like almost every manufacturer out there has switched over from hydraulic assist. Anyway, enough babbling, here are some pics. Donington Grey, Nutmeg/oak interior, 20" BC Forged RS41's (wheels inspired by a post on this forum several years ago): |

Welcome, and congrats!
I drive mine in sport mode most of the time and the steering feeling a lot better then comfort mode. Not sure if the steering is any different then X5M.

Thanks for the welcoming words!
rhite95, steering is configurable separately on the M, but all that does is add too much weight for my liking, and no difference in feedback. Shocks, throttle response and shift speeds are also configurable independently. I'm finding that most of the time, I prefer comfort steering and shocks, with middle of the road shift speeds and max throttle response. |

Cabby, the nutmeg leather was a leap of faith as small swatches and internet pics often don't give a great idea of what the entire interior will look like. I have to say I am really pleased with how it turned out. I've done black interiors in the past many times and was looking to make life more colourful!
Here's another pic with more ambient light, which makes it look a shade or two more like beige: |

Superior in most ways, and not just because it's an M. I expected a great engine, but to be fair the 4.4L TT in my 2012 was no slouch. The biggest surprise for me was the ride quality - in comfort mode the new vehicle rides so much better than either of my previous E70's.
I love the styling on my new one - it has a nice, aggressive stance, but TBH even though it now looks a bit dated, I think the E70 had a slightly better exterior design in that it had cleaner, simpler lines. |

Thats a nice looking ride! What wheels are those? They're really similar to the wheel design i was looking at getting but in 21" by BC forged. I tried to zoom into the pic with a close up of your rim and it almost looks like it says BC on the inner lip but I couldn't tell nor have i seen that style on there mono block listings so I wasn't sure.

Thanks, VGM6!
They are BC Forged RS41, 20 inch (already posted at the top of this thread). Finish is called dark brushed black. This was my first experience with BC Forged. I was very impressed with the quality of the wheels, how well they were protected on shipping, and how quickly they arrived (4 weeks from order). I have to say that my past experiences with HRE have not been as good. |
