I have the same rattle that seems to go away when I have large suitcases in the trunk... otherwise it is extremely annoying going over a bump or when the car flexes around a corner.

Do any of you have the third row seats (I do)? I was thinking that it was the third row... but now it sounds like I will need to take it in and will report back with what the dealer finds.

The lock was replaced but it is not better...anybody found the friction point?

I had my wifey drove while i sat on the back seat. I noticed my noise is coming from the right side tailgate window pillar. I will swing by the stealership sometime this week and let them troubleshoot the darn thing.

rear noise

I have also noticed an intermittent noise coming from the rear when going over some bumps. I haven't had a chance to try and localize the noise myself. Any new findings from those out there with similar issues?

Still looking for a solution...though, have you noticed that on each side of the trunk lid, there is a rubber absorber. And then under that one, there is a plastic rectangular contactor. I think the noise comes from this

I think I found but need confirmation.

Can you guys tell me

1) if you have the noise
2) which picture corresponds best to your plastic thing (up or down)?

For me, I have the noise when it is down position.

I'm hearing something similar coming from the right rear when I go over bumps. Haven't been able to identify it yet...

Eventually, the noise comes back. But it definitely comes from this area of the pillars

Just read this thread after posting another one about tailgate. Check the spring loaded lower part of tailgate. I think this is the noise. Not sure how to fix.

This very common problem seems to continue to be an issue with the next generation X5...

On another note, does the F15 come with the back trunk floorboard holder installed?

I just returned from the dealer and they have fixed the annoying sound. My sound was coming from the latch on the inside of the hatch. My service advisor hopped in and I gave him a quick test drive to duplicate the concern. We didnt even have to leave the parking lot before the sound reared its ugly head.

We got the shop foreman to come out and I was in and out in a little bit over an hour. They applied a teflon based grease to lubricate the latch and its gone. I'm not sold its gone forever, especially if its just been greased. But for now I'm completely satisfied and if it returns I know where to go and know it should be a quick fix.

Baboum68,
I think sliding those pieces up like you show in the pictures has improved/resolved my rear noise. I'm crossing my fingers that it won't come back.

Would spraying silicone spray into the rear latch help? It doesn't sound like a problem that extra lubrication would help, but I'm open to suggestions.

`if got the same noise and filmed it as well but unable to upload the movie.
Next friday it's at the dealer, and see what they find. Also a spring in the steering wheel column makes a irritating noise, spare part has been ordered already

Yes moving the plastic thing upwards does the trick.

My dealer says that BMW is aware of the issue but that adjusting is all that is needed to solve the issue

I also have this sound, it's almost like plastic flexing when going over uneven terrain. The sound goes away after a few minutes of driving. Noticed it after a visit to the dealer for a recall and a car vibration issue at 90-100km/h. Will have to try sitting in the back to get a better sense of where it is. I have the same issue with my wife getting annoyed so I have to get this resolved soon.

Fixed by the service center. The tail gate latches had to be adjusted according to the foreman.
