F15 Mirror replacement Wiring help ??

Hi,

I replaced my Passenger Mirror assembly for 2014 X5. Parts 51167364060. It says it is superseded by 51167477892.

The only issue is that on the new part there is only one set of wires vs two sets. I am able to connect the one set but the connection (circled in red) there is no wiring to connect to??

Both part number say heated so I am not sure what may of changed ? What is the wires I connected for ? and what is the ones I cant connect?

Any help understating this would be great.

This plug is for glass dimming. Are you sure you got a proper mirror?

That number pulls up a mirror without heated glass.
Did you use realoem.com to verify part numbers?

Yes the glass itself in correct. I did use realoem but it looks like my fault as I read that wrong

I read "Outside mirror w/out glass" and "heated right" thinking it just listed it w/o glass.

The real odd thing is that I can not find the correct part # in realoem for the Heated Right..

All I see is descriptions like this. What am I missing for RIGHT?

They all say
"Outside mirror w/out glass heated right"

01 Outside mirror w/out glass heated right SHADOW-LINE 1 04/2016 51167364060

01 Exterior mirror, no lens, heated, left SHADOW-LINE 1 51167364059

I guess the good new is that I picked this up used for a great price.

Not sure what the difference is between mirror glass and mirror lense. But the one part number looks like yours.

Yea the glass part I have is good I used that from the old one. I cant figure that out as well.

It was the the mirror housing I had the issue with and replaced. My Mirror was fine. I replaced the housing (broke when my X3 mirror caught the X5 mirror and cracked the mirror housing. So I replaced the mirror housing and the new one did not have the 2 sets of wires only the one set for the glass.

One thing I did notice is that the two wires that are missing on the old housing they go to the back of the motor that tilts the mirror. While the new one does not have those wires. There looks like there is a spot for the wires to connect but that is sealed.

Attached pic is the old mirror that I cracked the base plastic that can't be ordered unless you get the whole assembly.

What options do you have on your car? Surround view, dipped mirrors? Lane change warning? Memory seats?

Hi thanks MSport Pkg (so Shadownline) Auto dip mirror, Shadownline. Yep that is the page I was looking

I really only see 3 options
1 Outside mirror w/out glass heated right
2 Exterior mirror, no lens, heated, left
3 Outside mirror w/out glass heated right

These 3 options are a bit confusing to me. Either this is worded wrong or I cant get past a mental block on this I don't see the difference in both right options.

I did buy 51167477892 (super superseded 51167364060 and w surround / Lane change) I can swap what I need. What I did not notice is that this part 51167477892 only has the one set of wires to the mirror itself. The description threw me off.

I guess my whole issue is to understand where is Right heated. So what is the right side mirror housing correct #?

Hopefully I can sort this out

The noticeable info between the right side mirrors listed is the build date range. So that makes me ask...when did BMW stop the EC (auto dimming) passenger side mirror?

If you are missing the extra connections needed (like posted in your first pic that shows the rear side of the mirror glass)...the problem may be that the 2nd listing for the right mirror is set up for the change where the connections for the EC mirror glass is NOT incorporated into the mirror housing...only for heating feature.

Can't you take the wires out of the old mirror and put in the new?

As a data point, my 2018 lacks passenger side dimming

Well I did try that. They all go to the tilt motor for the mirror and are sealed in that motor harness. While all of the wires either come from the connector to the mirror or other sensors.

There is 1 set that go from the tilt motor to directly in the joint where it folds and it cant be removed as you would have to remove that joint. That is not possible as the joint is the spring and looks to be pressed riveted in.

From what you and CanadianLurker said. That has to be the difference! Guessing you are right with the build dates..

I was not sure if the connections that are missing was for heat or dimming. It looks like they may of dropped dimming. I wish that the description listed that.

So here is the real question they all show 51167364060 or superseded by
51167477892 after 2016 so how do you get the auto dim replacement part?

01 Outside mirror w/out glass heated right SHADOW-LINE 1 04/2016 51167364060 superseded by 51167477892
01 Exterior mirror, no lens, heated, left SHADOW-LINE 1 51167364059
01 Outside mirror w/out glass heated right SHADOW-LINE 1 04/2016 51167477892

All in all I have it swapped. For picking it up for $125 I can deal with not having dimming on the passenger side and having some spare parts!

To get the auto dim/heated mirror housing for the passenger side...I'd shop for the older part nbr (51167364060) instead of the new one...which means you'll probably end up with a used housing. Also check what other BMW models uses the same mirror housing (perhaps the X6)...which will expand the number of BMWs you can search as a donor.
