Jaguar XE SV Project 8 - 600hp supercharged V8

http://media.jaguar.com/news/2017/05...0&brand=jaguar

Only 300 units.....disappointing unless there is a follow on larger production version. Not sure that I'd buy but certainly invite the competition to up the game.

Yeah, that's almost like if BMW were to come right out of the gate with an M4 GTS. Are they too afraid that a standard "XE R" would not be able to garner any sales against the existing players in the segment?

I'm sure it'll be a great car, but priced well over $100k no doubt. Plus, some markup is likely initially due to the limited number, so it's not really going to be an attainable car for most who shop the M3 and its competitors.

The other thing is that I don't see mention of AWD so it is likely to be very traction limited in a lot of situations. It's cool that its a sedan though - as you'd expect from an XE and from Jaguar in general right now since they don't have any coupes besides the F-Type. Without AWD, it probably won't be able to unseat the latest E63 S or Panamera Turbo S as the quickest sedans in the world, but should be right up there.

I agree...remember the F type Project 7 before the F type SVR? I think Jaguar might be pulling the same marketing tactic here... A limited run hardcore version before the mainstream hardcore version so to speak.

Jaguar’s XE SV Project 8 Mule Is A 600HP Hot Rod From UK

Quote:
We already know that Jaguar will reveal a crazy, 600hp version of the XE dubbed the SV Project 8 in two days and this appears to be one of the mules they’re using for development.

Compared to the car Jaguar previewed on video last month, the car you see in the pictures is wearing a slightly different aero costume, with the front and rear bumpers, side sills and wing to be new.

The wide-body kit remains but the rear wing now appears to be a ducktail instead of the giant spoiler we saw on the aforementioned video while the lower extensions of the bumpers and side sills are also missing.

These clues might indicate either Jaguar is also working on a less extreme version of the XE SV Project 8 or that this is just another prototype of the upcoming super sedan, minus some bodywork parts.

Jaguar is planning to build 300 examples of the XE SV Project 8 which will be the company’s most powerful road-legal model to date as it uses a 600PS version of the supercharged 5.0-litre V8 (591hp).

Judging by just how aggressive this Jag looks and by the half roll cage fitted behind the seats, we would say that Jaguar is planning to position the XE SV Project 8 against similarly-minded models like the BMW M4 GTS but with a whole lot more power.

Jaguar is planning to reveal the XE SV Project 8 on June 28, so watch out for the full details in the coming days.

Jaguar's 600 HP XE SV Project 8 Will Make You Forget About The M3

Quote:
Following a preview earlier this month, Jaguar has officially unveiled the XE SV Project 8.

Created by Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations, the XE SV Project 8 is a shot across the bow of the German establishment as it packs a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine that produces 600 PS (441 kW). The engine is connected to an eight-speed Quickshift transmission which allows the super sedan to rocket from 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds before hitting a top speed of 200 mph (321 km/h).

Those performance figures are supercar worthy and the baby Jag has the equipment to backup its position as the "pinnacle of the world’s performance sedans."

Starting with the exterior, the model has been equipped with a carbon fiber front bumper, a carbon fiber hood, and an adjustable splitter. The SVO team also installed a flat underbody panel and a carbon fiber rear bumper with an aggressive diffuser. Other highlights include 20-inch forged aluminum wheels and an adjustable rear wing.

The mules sold in the USA are speed limited to 120 mph. Not even close to consideration.

Nice, but they skipped making making the R version altogether. Missed opportunity.

seems like every manufacturer is trying to get in on the low production volume, high performance game that Ferrari and Porsche GT cars have enjoyed. I'm not sure Jag can really pull it off though. my guess is these cars will still depreciate because the XE is, sadly, a car that nobody cares about. if it disappeared tomorrow, the car enthusiast community wouldn't notice.

I love it! The regular SVR (if it happens) looks promising if it's priced like an M3 competitor.

That would help explain why the press is boasting E63-S-like acceleration figures.

I wrote that post back in May when the original press release came out, and there was no mention of AWD. I wonder why there is still no mention of it in the latest round of stories featuring the fully uncloaked car? I suppose those details will come on Friday when it is officially unveiled at Goodwood.

From german car magazine AMS:
Quote:

Quote:
Complex suspension and standard all-wheel drive

Jaguar has modified the chassis for better cornering performance: a double cross-link design is used on the front axle, and an all-wheel-drive variant on the rear axle. In addition, Jaguar has changed the spring-damper system: apart from harder springs and dampers, Jaguar attaches to the axle suspension machined Uniball joints instead of normal rubber bearings. This increases the precision, because the metal parts do not yield in comparison with rubber.

Jaguar has also fitted the XE SV with adjustable shock absorbers and a height-adjustable chassis with two settings: normal and race track. The latter setting lowers the body by 15 millimeters.

For optimum traction, the XE SV Project 8 uses an all-wheel drive with electronic center differential. This can be used to determine exactly how much torque should be applied to which axle and wheel. By the way: Jaguar delivers the XE SV on 20-inch, forged aluminum rims. As a tire type they has opted for the grip-strong, but still halfway everyday Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2. Aerodynamic grip is also due to the large rear wing, Jaguar speaks from 122kg downforce at 300km/h

^ Thanks for taking the time to translate the German article. AWD indeed. I was lazy, so I was just going to wait until tomorrow to get the details in English.
