To get to the outside air filter you need to remove no 4 in the picture below. It has 3 clips and the rubber engine bay seal that needs to be pulled off its front edge. Then you need to remove no 7 in the picture that has a plastic catch towards the front of the car. Then you should see the microfilter. Be careful, the connectors are plastic and must not be damaged. Rather get help if you have trouble removing parts.

It is part of the maintenance program and BMW will replace cabin filter ones per year.

For what its worth my my wife e90 and my e92 both have poor AC from the start. The cars only really gets "cold" if I'm driving +30mins. I was in Florida and rented a Kia and within 10 mins had to roll the window down a crack just to let in some warm air as I was freezing. My two friends with Bimmers have the same issue. It is disspapointing that my 57K coupe has weak ass A/C but ultimately its pretty low on the list of things that are important in the car to me.

This maybe a dumb question but do you have the thumb wheels in the center of the dash turned so that they are at their coldest setting, all blue with no red showing?

Another thought is to select the Max AC setting, that is what I use on hot days when I start driving, that always works to cool the car down quicker. I then switch to auto after the interior cools down.

here Dubai Temp this time of year is 37 C
No problem whatsoever with the A/C, the only issue I noticed is that X5's glass is not really insulating much; having owned RR and Lexus the X5 glass is not up to those vehicles |

the majority of my issue is with the heat coming through the front windshield. first time in my life contemplating a window reflector screen.
max ac is great and all but for what sounds like a freight train,,,,still crappy air flow, sounds like its about to blow and it trickles out....with it closing in on 95 degrees on some days, i understand my car will be hot after an hour or so in the sun, but honestly, the air flow even if no AC needs to be greater.... i cant get a blast of air in the cabin without opening the windows....im actually very upset about it, and need a fix or ill be in the dealer ranting about this

Before reading this thread I also hesitated whether or not there is something wrong with the air con. I have 4 area ventilation and while it makes the car colder, I still feel it is not as effective as I would expect in comparison to lets say a Porsche Panamera. Now after reading comment I am sure it is normal behavior.

37-37 Celsius (95 - 98.6 Fh) in Europe this week and I am slowly cooking inside my black X5 m50d 2014!
Indeed, I do not have the 358 option (climate comfort windscreen) and this may be an issue. My wifes' Evoque 2.2l diesel - also black- is much better in cooling the cabin! From what I've tested, it seems the engine RPM problem, in the city, when the engine stays ~ 2000 RPM. Put the car on manual and try to have ~ 2500 RPM. You will get significantly more cold air on BMW. If you replace the windshield, ask for part 51317292401 (if you have HUD) or 51317308905 (no HUD); See here P.S. Eco pro climate settings is off by default on my car, not that I use Eco Pro mode... Last edited by Mentat; 08-01-2015 at 03:07 AM.. |

I hope this does not offend anyone but between the center vents is a dial with red and blue on it. It need to be all the way to blue or it will warm the air coming out. I had an F15 loaner and was shocked at the AC. I am in Atlanta and it's hot. Eve though I have the same dial on my 535 I had never touched it.
I dialed it all the way to blue and it was day to night. I am baffled by the use of the dial because it seems redundant but check it. |

I have my windows tinted at 18% (on top of privacy glass in the rear) and put on auto at 60, up to the third bar and it usually cools down within 5 minutes. If I turn up the air, I just turn up the volume of the jam

My usual mode of operation is to have the rear vents turned off (in the iDrive) and the passenger vents closed. I run the AC at 76 on one bar (yes one) and its fine. However, my car is garaged at both home and work. If its been outside in the daytime for a few hours not under a tree, I run max AC for maybe a minute or two, then back to its normal setting.
It's been ~100 around Austin for a while now, so its definitely battling some major outside temps (not Dubai-level, but still darned hot). The story changes significantly if I have to turn on the rear vents and/or open the passenger vents. It doesn't seem to be a temperature issue, but it being able to get the air to my body. Also, when those passenger vents are open, it feels like the passenger is getting more air. What's up with that??! |

i still believe the only issue is the ac fan blower....the air gets plenty cold, but on max setting it sounds like a freight train and still isnt blowing hard enough...

On a hot summer day, the A/C was on coldest and strongest setting. All of a sudden, it became louder than usual and blew minimal, non-A/C air. Had to stop the car and restart, which solved the problem momentarily before issue reappeared. Thankfully, haven't had the problem since (probably one of those break-in period issues)

Spent the last 3 weeks in temps daily exceeding 30C (86F) and am amazed at how efficient the AC is in my car. Cools it way down within minutes.
I´ve actually got the opposite problem. It blows way to cold air. I´ve always used to put the dials on 16 (lowest possible) during summer in all my cars but for the first time I´ve had to keep them around 18-19. So either something is wrong with yours or you have some settings wrong. I do have ventilated seats and occasionally use the remote service ventilation before driving but still, strongest AC in a BMW for me yet. |

I agree.... You'd think for the amount of noise coming from the vents you'd actually feel something, but I can't feel it very well.
