You should really consider what you are listing to and when you are listening to it. Since there is so much road noise and most content is highly compressed, you reach a point of diminishing returns very quickly. I'd guess the BO system would make way more sense in a 7 series with someone who listened primarily to CDs - preferably while parked.

Hi,

had B&O system in my 2015 M6 and it rocks, no point of comparison with the HK system in my 2015 X5. Sorry.

I have B&O in my F10 M5 and HK in F15 X5. The sound quality and the power of the B&O is obviously better, but I have couple annoyances about the B&O. Center speaker rattles and lower front speakers have a zipping sound with certain tones. I have not had any annoyances with HK yet, but like I said the sound quality is not all there.

I have B&O in my m5 and x6m. F82 has HK. There is no comparison. If the m4 had an option for B&O, I would have gotten it. Get the B&O. It is worth it.

Code ASD off, your B&O will sound even better.

yea, I've had it done since I bought the car 3 years ago. The annoyances come from mounting imperfections of spaces between door panels and also the center speaker buzzes a lot. The sound quality and power is not questionable at all.

My B&O sound system is awesome and in my opinion worth the money. I haven't had any problems with rattles, buzzing or zipping. As far as road noise, what road noise? In my opinion, road noises are pretty well suppressed in the X5. Moreover, you have 1200 watts to overcome any minor highway speed road noises.

Everyone's experiences and opinion is different as it has been demonstrated on this thread. Some are audiophiles and some aren't.. I have no doubts that B&O system is better than the HK system. The doubts I do have is if the B&O is $4,000+ better, especially in a listening environment with wind noise, outside traffic, etc. that is disruptive. I see it this way... if I have the additional dollars to pour into a sound system then I would, if not then I would use the funds elsewhere where it is more important for me.

B&O would make sense to me with some options included to complete the second part of the equation - the room/space - such as extra noise isolation, some special surface materials, etc. Otherwise comparative advantages are masked by the noise and same surface reflections. Now in relative terms, for me I would say B&O is some 6-7,000 more expensive if I consider those additional options to make the best out of that sound system.

EDIT. In this case, it is 100% worth it if you want my two cents

not an audiophile here and have no idea about sounds or something but if the source is from iTunes, would it still sound crappy as opposed to a CD?

CD audio is the clearest you can get unless you get a system that supports loss-less audio files.

i do not know but on the F31 it does but on some earlier F3X vehicle it was hit or miss along with higher bitrate MP3. i do not know if there was a year split where it supported and did not or if it completely random. some members over on the F3X forum play flac through their ipod into the system through the USB and they were able to circumvent compatibility issues.

Will coding off ASD to an HK equipped car have a similar impact?

Would be great to hear a sound clip of ASD on and off within a car.

Just tried FLAC this morning, it does indeed work and sounds fantastic. Next test would be to see if it will play 24bit FLAC! I don't have any music in 24bit yet but going to work on getting something to test it out. My only fear is the quality may be so good I may never be able to go back to regular recordings.

Yes, just code ASD off regardless of what sound system you have. Have the ASD on is like pumping 2 sound sources to one sound system, it's just not right.

Agree. Will have to check it out once I've had a chance to spend some time in the car. So far I've only had a single test drive where I had the stereo off completely. Which makes me wonder, if you aren't listening to any music at all, what would the difference be between ASD on vs off from an exhaust perspective.

This discussion seems to be centered around the stereo sounding better for music, however I'm mostly curious from an exhaust sound perspective. Does the exhaust sound artificial with the music off but ASD on?

I wouldn't say it sounds artificial, it just sounds like your windows are down when it's up. Regardless, many don't like the sound coming from the speakers.
