IDrive question

I have googled and searched to death and I swear I saw someone else complain about this before but what causes the I Drive controller wheel to get really hard to turn? Today while driving I'm searching up Sirius stations and man, I could hardly turn the thing at one point. Its now back to normal, and even 10 minutes later it was looser but at one point you couldn't even turn it. No spills, no previous issues.

99% chance it was a physical blockage or something like that since there's nothing in the programming/hardware that would cause that. Either a piece of errant glue/plastic breaking off internally or something worming it's way underneath the controller.

Don't worry about it further if it fixed itself. If it gets stuck again, either take it to the dealer and have them fix it or see if there's an easy way to get a view underneath the controller in the console.

Thanks for the reply. So there is nothing in the system that is supposed to make it difficult to turn correct?

^^ Correct. Definitely sounds like a problem. Have the dealer check it out. The dial should never have that level of resistance.

no nothing around the controller...seems if I leave it be for a bit then it turns freely. Odd for certain.

Garage List
I know on the older iDrive if you hit the end of a list or zoomed in all the way, it would hit a hard stop... but I don't think any of the new controllers have that though...

Mine just did this. Didn't spill anything or drop anything on it. One minute it worked just like always, the next minute it was really hard to turn. Dealer fixed it under warranty. They had to order the part, took a few days, but once they had it, it only took an hour. They don't really know what specifically was wrong, they just replaced the whole knob assembly. SA said they had a few of those recently. "Replaced I-Drive Control Assembly" is the exact wording on the paperwork. This is the only issue I've had in 2 years, so I'm not complaining.

Known issue with the 2014's. My 2014 is starting to do it too.
